There are so many things I would put ahead of this (when it comes to giving money) that I can't envision opting in. Even if I was making so much money that I wished people would stop giving me money, I would likely just give to the general fund. As others have said, I don't mind players getting money for name, image, and likeness, but let it come from a special sandwich at Jethro's or George White using them in a commercial.

Let's also not forget that while some of these kids will have career-ending injuries or won't pan out, most that are going to get serious NIL money are likely going to be millionaires in a year or two. You're essentially talking about scrounging together $.50/day...so you can give money to (soon to be) millionaires.

I'd be much more willing to have my kids take a photo with athletes and pay them.

Responding to the 2nd line, I’d imagine that part of the collective will be setting up meet and greets or something similar. It’s NIL, the athlete still needs to actually do something in order to be paid, not just be the student athlete.

This whole thing is so dumb, and it is continuing because so many people believe these athletes have been taken advantage of. Almost every high school athlete in this country dreams of a D1 scholarship, and they work their butts off for the slim chance of getting there. I don't think thousands if not millions of people are busting their ass for years of their lives on the hopes of being exploited. This system has offered plenty back to the athletes as is.

Now this NIL nonsense is going to kill the gravy train, or at least shrink the numbers players at the table. Many will lose out so the rich can get richer.

I would assume so.

Not sure that is a good assumption. Have you seen anywhere that contributions to collectives will be tax deductible?

I am no tax to expert, but it would seem if athletes are being compensated for NIL, that is payment for services performed. If collectives have found a loophole, I would think the IRS would close pretty quickly.

Yeah, I don't think that's true, though. That's what most of us envisioned NIL to be, but sounds like many players will just get paid to go to a certain school (regardless of how good they perform or if they even stick around).

I won’t be donating. I’m all for players getting money, but not like this. If recruiting turns purely into a bidding war rather than choosing schools based on merit, then I’m out. I don’t care to contribute to such a system.

The day is near when I will likely be exclusively following lower level college football, where there’s less money and more kids playing for the love of the game.

After years of talking about how athletes deserve some compensation for all the money they bring in for their schools, it's insane to me that we've arrived at a place where they can receive money from literally anyone EXCEPT the very entity they help bring money in for. The only system that would make any sense to me is for the players to start receiving a percentage of the money that's already coming in. Not relying on the fans to try and create an entirely separate revenue stream, aside from the donations were already making.

This. I expected NIL to be like getting money for doing a camp, autograph signings or collaborations with local businesses. I didn't expect things like collectives boosters basically buying players.

Then you were dumb when the rest of us were trying to explain it to you, but yet the mantra continued it's the right thing to do!
