Will you be crying like a spoiled brat when iowa state isn’t as competitive in sports in the same way people cry and complain about government policies when they don’t vote?

Nope. I’m going yo laugh when donating to this pay for play scheme doesn’t change a ******* thing. And I don’t care about people not voting, that is their right. They are still citizens so they can complain about whatever they want. Now the people that vote against their own self interests….

What Universities are actually profiting from athletics? Are there really ADs that have a positive bank account? It seems to me all of the money is put back into the facilities for the athletes, scholarships and facilities for the programs that don't make money. I will continue to put money into the University to continue to build up what will actually improve our team's ability to train, I won't pay a player to play. Every athlete should be able to teach others and get paid for that. They should get royalties on jersey's sold with their number. They should get money from any entity that wants to sell products on their name, image, and likeness. They should not get money from me to play for Iowa State.

I don't know to your question. All I know the universities making millions on the backs of players is what we were sold by those who were in favor of NIL.

How has that changed with the ruling?

Not exactly sure.
Yeah, they don’t really try to get people to donate. I can think of zero examples of anyone asking me to contribute to athletics. If they did, I probably would have. Hope this opinion helps provide perspective.
Please give to the cyclone club and grid iron club. You’ve been asked.

I think it will turn into a 'why didn't you donate!?' to people that don't when a player leaves, like it would have mattered when it's chump change for other schools/boosters to poach someone.

Before someone says 'but Niang!!'' let's think a little harder about what NFL/NBA superstar alums from other schools will pledge.
I’ve already been harassed for not being willing to donate by a few people already and that was just this week.

They are non profit organizations. You can’t make a profit otherwise you lose your 501c3 status. Even if they had nothing to spend it on, they would find something to spend it on not to jeopardize the status.

To be clear, I’m more than happy to contribute to the collective. I throw away ten dollars a month on the iowa state rivals page and I don’t even visit it. I can give the same amount or more to our athletes. Especially considering I’m out of state and can’t really go the games unless they are in the area or I can make a vacation out of it, I’m more than willing and happy to give them something for their efforts.
Non profits aren't required to spend every dollar and can indeed have assets or equity. In the case of most non profits it would be hard to explain to donors why their funds aren't being used for the intented charitable purpose- hunger, education, poverty, etc.

There is nothing preventing Athletic Departments from having a profit and setting that money aside for future capital projects, a rainy day fund or how about a novel idea- funding the University General Fund.

The fact is that College Sports have become an arms race of uncontrolled spending. Schools like Texas trying to outdo OU or Bama or Ohio State or LSU and about 10-15 other schools. And the rest of the P5 schools are just trying to invest wisely to remain relevant and competitive.

University Presidents are addicted to the Business of College Sport. It's going to be an interesting next 3-5 years.

You won’t believe me but it’s ok: I’m trying to but can’t figure out how. From the looks of things, donations are tied to season ticket purchases which I have no interest in doing as I live out of state. It’s no wonder you only have 450 club members at the 100 dollar level: iowa state makes it very difficult and convoluted to do something simple like make a basic donation for not a ticket.

Direct from the FY22 Budget report presented to the Regents:
"The Athletic Department purchases services from numerous entities within the University including tuition and room/board from scholarship payments, facilities, University services, band, event support, utilities, etc.. Athletics has committed $1 million of funding to the general university for scholarships to assist with student retention. The projected total cost to Athletics for these services is roughly $25.0 million."

Just casually tried to test the interest in mrs cyfan92 in throwing our money into NIL.

She was mad I asked... I believe her quote was "you want to pay 18 year old's with our money... I'd rather our money be given to hungry children"

Looks like I'm out fam..

...and her money she's donating to hungry kids probably isn't going to hungry kids.

Haven't read many of the posts on here but I have read some..

NiL is reality now...yes it sucks.. If you cannot afford $10 a month or so as an ISU fan or student to help keep ISU sports relative then stop following ISU sports.

GFY you have no idea what some peoples financial status is. This take is bad and you should feel bad posting it.
