I'm sure you already know this but some may not.... Darren posted the worst Wonderlic score in NFL history - equaled only by Morris Claiborne who was later diagnosed with a learning disability.

I don’t put much to those Cognitive Test. If the president of the US doesn’t need one… why should anyone else?

Seems like a money grab for the companies that put them out.

I can tell you 1 thing I had a history class with Darren Davis and there is no way in hell he passed that class without some kind of help. Several of us that showed up every class and took notes went into the final worried about passing the class. I'm pretty sure I went into the final with a D and had I not spent a ton of time studying for the final with some groups that were in the same boat as me it probably was the hardest earned C+ I got in college. Darren and some other FB player would usually show up about 10 minutes late, sit in the upper deck of the auditorium and take a nap and never take out a pen and paper to take notes. Same semester Cael Sanderson was in this same class with us and he showed up and took notes like any other student would.

Had a friend a few years older than me going to ISU when I was in HS and he had a class with Kelvin Cato and told me he seriously wondered if Kelvin knew how to read with some of the things he observed. Not trying to throw some of our former players under the bus here but I'm sure anyone that had a class with certain athletes probably has some interesting stories like this to share. Freshman year I lived on a floor with a bunch of guys that were on the track team and most of them probably had better study habits than I did. One funny thing is we got a new math teacher in HS my junior year and he was a horrible teacher but bragged all the time about how he tutored the ISU men's BB team. Well funny thing is he would have been doing that about the same time we had some guys not make grades 1 semester (I think Pratt and 1 or 2 others maybe?) so we found that funny he was proud of that job because we all thought he was an idiot.
I only had a scout team guy for the football team in one of my small breakout sessions for English. He was actually a really good student and great to work with in class, actually engaged unlike a lot of my classmates. Plus, at least at the time (13-14ish) they would come make sure players were at least attending class.

Agreed. Although it still is a remarkable score regardless. I don't think they do much in reality and can see how someone may not do well on that kind of thing for a huge variety of reasons.

I love the Davis brothers for what they did for ISU football but they both probably had their own borderline learning disabilities. Troy had a hard time talking. Keith Murphy has said multiple times on his radio show that some at ISU were worried about him having to give a speech if he won the Heisman.

I knew several athletes we all thought were less than stellar and had to perform magic to stay eligible. Wrestlers were the worst. One now has a PhD in education and several ended up running companies that were very successful. Eventually motivation and pride bring out the true self.
In today's world this pay for play may never bring out that motivation in these kids. They think the here and now is the end of the rainbow.

I had to make up a history test with a bunch of football offensive linemen. I think they were all pretty smart and went to class regularly but they were traveling during the normal test time. On the other hand, I was making up the test because my writing hand was blistered and bandaged because my roommate dropped a hot oil popcorn popper griddle on it. It was all essay and I took longer than them because my hand was still pretty messed up. They all started comparing how many times they had broken a bone in their hands and dislocated fingers and I felt like a wuss.

It's cute that you think academics matter.

Online classes are the best thing that has ever happened to college coaches. No more concerns ever about a kid being eligible but I'm guessing the academic assistants in departments across the country are getting tired of slightly editing the same term paper over and over to make it passable.
Nebraska football / NCAA thinks academics matter.

"Deondre Jackson, the former Texas A&M running back who announced this winter that he was going to play at Nebraska, will not attend NU after all, he announced Tuesday on Twitter.

Jackson could not make an immediate transfer to NU because of academic issues. He will return to the portal and look for a new school."

I know right? LOL, Frost really is trying to bring back old traditions but keeps finding things standing in his way. Beyond better opposing defenses, better opposing offenses, now he has to fight academics too.
