When grouping things in four some think of it as "the Rushmore" I personally group all things of four as the turtles.

So here are my Turtles of cities.

The obvious leader is NYC, so that is Leonardo.

You've got the tough hard-nosed Raphael, which is obviously Chicago.

Then for the flashy party dude Michaelangelo you obviously have LA.

So that leaves the tech savvy Donatello which I'd have to give to San Fran.

I like your criteria. I think the whole reason the question is asked is because #4 is such a wide range of possibilities.

It has literally the busiest airport in the world and has for almost 30 years, couple that with the 36th biggest US city, and covering the southeastern part of the country, I think it has the best argument.
There are many reasonable criteria to pick for importance, but airport use is a silly one. Denver airport is busier than LA or Chicago but no one would say Denver is a ‘more major’ city than those two

I dumbed this post, not the previous one, because it seems very dumb to ask someone to explain their "dumbing" of a post. In this case, it is almost certainly likely to derail the thread. Best to just leave the "dumber" alone.
Disagree in this instance. This thread is about opinions on top cities in the country. It’s stupid to dumb a post and not comment. I can live with being called dumb (especially when forgetting about the SF Giants…) but explain your reason. My guess is if I were in the cave I’d know these individuals though and wouldn’t have thought twice about why they were doing what they did.

It's not the only reason but the airports in Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston are big parts of their identity. Lots of direct flights to both coasts plus both Europe and Asia with very little winter weather. There's a reason so many multinational companies are either headquartered or have their main USA office in these 3 cities.

Dallas above Houston only happens when looking at a map. SMMFH

Visit Detroit.

They’re not in the same ballpark as cities.

Search “San Francisco: The Detroit of California”. I would have posted a link, but the AI overview is probably helpful. Saying SF is Detroit may not be accurate, but some of what has happened in San Francisco in the last couple years is unbelievable if you haven’t been there. Pay special attention to the portion about the stores that have closed if you read the article…again, unbelievable.

That said, I’ve said what I need to about SF. Proceed with conversations about Atlanta, Houston, etc.
