I have a hard time believing any decision has been made before the media rights window has closed and they know their true value. In fact, I could see a report like this to help the P12 case to raise the offered amount from the media companies.

That article smacks of a leak attempting to scuttle the Big 12s efforts.

Could be.

Let’s see the numbers and GOR. At the very least pushing hard for that merger

People do tend to prefer status quo and punt things down the road when faced with uncertainty. Doing something seems like taking the bigger risk.

Giving the BIG more time to offer, seeing what occurs in CFP, employment, ACC, etc makes sense for Oregon, UW etc.

But for others, they would be passing on the chance to dictate their future. A Big 18 or 20 was their least risky way of making certain they’re in the base of a P3. A rump PAC continuing the downward trend of PAC, with BIG or ACC then poaching, or Big 12 being liquidated, means more than Oregon St and WSU are left out.

Big 12 should offer a GOR with a P2 out clause, particularly good for going to whatever network is doing the underwriting

Hypothetically, if the Big 12 GOR/deal were to be to 2036, would ISU rather make a ton of money (likely via court) but potentially end up in American or MWC either now or closer to 2036, or trade that GOR option in exchange for ESPN/OUT (plus say KU) to make the the Big 12 leftovers a P3 setup in which we make slightly more through 2036 than we would have with OUT in the Big 12?
I don't know if it is likely, but I wonder if FOX/ESPN would be able/want to arrange the new Pac-10 and Big 12 contracts to both end in 2036. That would set it up so that the three tier 2 conferences are all up for renegotiation at the same time. This would allow the top of college football to break away from the NCAA at the end of those contracts and take along any of the ACC/B12/P10 that they want. Even if they all end in the '34-37 window, that leaves all three open to picking apart fairly easily.

Like others have mentioned, I think that the schools will begin to jump ship once they find out the new TV deal money isn't very good. They are just waiting for the dollar amounts before they make a decision.

Hopefully they are forming another alliance. It's obvious, anything anyone says in college football doesn't mean **** anymore. How long ago was it that the PAC, ACC And B1G announced their alliance, to then have one of those conferences actively destroying another one during said alliance?

B12 will hopefully stay on the offensive. They are together until they are not, as someone has said. I still believe the 'new' B12 base is stronger due to better historical fan interest. It only really takes one to break it down. Colorado is weak, its a sitting duck... :)

ESPN will only get 2-4 teams from the ACC into the SEC. If the ACC disbands then they only have the SEC. Geography restricted SEC. ESPN is not in the superior position. FOX can put the screws to them.

It wouldn’t shock me if the P5 survives until the ACC can be raided. I think it’s more likely it’s a P4 until then assuming the PAC doesn’t get a good media deal though.

It would take espn and Fox to get back on the same page. Those two be adversarial to each other is good for leftovers.

Imo at one time the plan was for both to pretty much get out (or eliminate) non-P2s. That works if they aren’t battling each other for market share and control.

The leftovers must consolidate. A conference of 20-24 of these schools would take awhile to separate from. Revenue of that “3” is not even as important as getting to it imo.

Maintaining status quo in 3 rump conferences backfilling with G5 and fighting each other for scraps is suboptimal for all leftovers. Obviously it is best for ISU the Big 12 be the start of the “3” because ESPN has a large interest in eventual dissolution of PAc and Big 12, which puts us at extreme risk

With any luck we will be there by Tuesday.
