You had nothing to do with this until you chirped in on my post after I said it's difficult to excel in both sports. I started the post, not you. So, just be quiet now, please.
It is hard for a predominantly basketball school to be good at football.
Duke had a little run under the ole ball coach, then David later, but they always regress to their mean. So many factors work against football - donor intentions, facilities, fan interests, tradition, on and on.
Lance seems like a good dude, founded in fundamentals though. And he has brought some talent through the portal this year.
Correct. If it's only Final Fours and National Championships then virtually nobody aside from a handful has a good program. Notre Dame (surly you are making me defend them, which really ticks me off because I flipping hate Notre Dame) has a Final Four, 7 Elite Eight's and 17 Sweet Sixteen's to go with all of those tournament bids. Not a bad haul.
The 17 Sweet Sixteen's is tied for 12th all-time with your own Purple Kitties surly FYI. So therefore K State does not have a good bball program either. UConn (viewed as a basketball power program by most has only 17 Sweet 16's as well FYI.
Ohio State falls into having both football and bball at an elite level. Football is a no-brainer, but bball has a national championship, 4 runner ups, 11 Final Fours and 15 Elite Eight's just toss a few accolades around.

I have to say after making my first trip to Manhattan Last year. Besides having friendly fans about the only thing that was nice about that stadium was the parking lot.Indoor training facility going up in Manhattan.
The tailgating was amateur at best. We showed up early, expecting a decent tailgate, especially for the beautiful weather, and the parking lots were mostly empty until right before the game. There were no tailgates, even though they have a great parking lot, with space designated for each spot to set up in. I have never seen an ISU tailgate that weak even in freezing temps against KU.
The stadium seemed really small, besides the oversized sky box that seemed too big for the rest of the stadium. It felt like a large FCS or maybe G5 stadium. And the Stairs and concourse made it feel even worse. Besides the fancy skybox and facade on the west side it is very unimpressive and the tiny video boards are outdated.
It really felt like no one was there, and there were a lot of Cyclone fans there. It was a strange atmosphere.
Then looking at the student section, with the band included, looked like it must be about 1/4 or less the size of ISUs student section without the band.
I have not been to KU, although I am planning on going this year. While I am sure KU is a dump, and KSU has some nicer upgrades, it sure isn't much to brag about, they need to do a lot of work to that stadium to make it better. Although I don't think they are screaming for additional capacity around there.
Hey....The last time I heard, Kansas was still in the B12. The $ payout to ISU is partially based on attendance at KU football games and the TV income that comes from their games. I agree that their existing stadium has been a laughing stock in the conference, so a new one will help us all. It is too bad that it couldn't have happened sooner. But, as we all know their basketball dorm and basketball televisions, and basketball salaries, and basketball........... came first. I am a transplant to the Kansas City area, so have seen this from the front row.

If JP is serious about football, he'd get going on a press box project. We probably have the least impressive press box in the P5
We have a bunch of other projects with higher priority than that, imo. And that project is likely to be extremely expensive if we ever do it since it'd probably require reconfiguring the west side concourses and concessions as well. The benefit doesnt really justify the cost at this point since we're not really in desperate need of more suite space.
I have to imagine the next major facilities project on deck is Hilton. The upgraded concourse, concessions, and scheman connection are needed, as is probably an upgraded video board since this one is like 15 years old and on its last legs (hell, the JTS north board is over a decade at this point, its probably going to be due for replacement in a few years too).
Who cares about the press? They will eventually get a new tower, but when they do it, it will be due to suite demand. Probably will see this done by or around 2030.
I get it's not a priority, but it's embarrassing imo. I've been to a few other college stadiums and it's always the first thing I noticed. It would really change the feel in the stadium for the better.
I couldnt disagree more. I really don't give a damn what a press box looks like. Its certainly not 'embarrassing'.
We've done what's needed in JTS with the upgrades over the last 10 years. Until there's more demand for premium space, I doubt we'll see a press box change.
Agree to disagree I guess. I've gone to Iowa, WVU, NC State games, and WVU and ISU stick out with how small the press boxes are. I just think it looks a little minor league, and out of place for a stadium so big. A full length press box really makes everything feel more "big time" if that makes any sense.
Note that WVU has the same stadium design as we do. They, like us, had room to add premium space between the decks.
Schools with full length 'press boxes' have often done so because they needed that premium space and couldnt add it in the middle (or they had enough big funders they needed even more space). We don't need it at this time. The cost:benefit just isn't there, it really isn't close. Especially when you really look at the underlying costs. Our concourse\concessions are all in the way of where any expanding supports for a new box would go.
It's not the press box, it's for the suites that they can sell in them. The current press box looks like armature hour and needs to be enlarged. If we want to present a top program, then we have to play in a stadium that looks like it.
Bowling in the South Endzone was a great start, now use funds to build a press box that spans the entire West side, and if we can, start planning on another on the East side. For too long, ISU has not taken a step forward, we are now, and need to continue to do so. The improvements in Hilton can wait, we need to be spending every extra dollar on JTS to stay in the game.

If demand existed for premium space in the press box, it would already be built because it would pay for itself. That demand does not exist.
You want vanity things, the projects at hilton address basic functionality and revenue. When we are as limited budget as we are, we have to focus on the latter.
