I think that's 16 unless I'm misunderstanding you
B1G, SEC, Big 12, ACC. 4 Bids total. 1 each
Group of 5 . 1 Bid total….not each.
At Large. 7 Bids total
12 Team CFP. Highest ranked get 1st round bye.

Oh, I was reading that as one each for the G5 champions, my mistakeB1G: 1 auto
SEC: 1 auto
Big 12: 1 auto
ACC: 1 auto
G5: 1 auto
7 at large
I think you are right that this is where it’s headed but I hate the concept of multiple rounds of playoffs in D1A. Unless Big 12 champ Iowa State gets to host SEC #4 in mid-December, which would be glorious and suck at the same time. Having college kids play potentially 17 games is over-the-top, including throughout fall semester finals. Plus, Alabama and Georgia could win every game by 30 on the way to the finals so what’s the point?B1G, SEC, Big 12, ACC. 4 Bids total. 1 each

Fixed it for you. This is the only reason ESPN is pushing for expanded playoffsB1G: 1 auto
SEC: 1 auto
Big 12: 1 auto
ACC: 1 auto

7 other SEC
FCS does it. And theoretically it would only be 2 teams that play the maximum and 2 more teams that play one less than maximum. For all other schools it is like a Bowl Game. One Playoff game. It is not every team playing that many games.
Right, with ESPN’s help.ND to the Big 10 would all but guarantee the SEC responds with top ACC brands.

PAC 12 is doomed. B1G is going to pick at the carcass again. Corner Schools to the Big 12. Washington State and Oregon State will be the flagship universities of the new PAC 12 Lite. ACC will survive for now. The GOR binds them. Look for a 12 team playoff. 4 remaining P5 Conferences get automatic each. Group of 5 Conferences get 1 automatic. 7 at large.

Except ESPN can be patient with the ACC. Why call up FSU, Clemson, UNC, and VT just to pay them SEC money? ESPN already has the ACC locked up for another 14 years at what is looking more and more like a steal of a price.Right, with ESPN’s help.
Eventually but not for a while. No one has beaten a GOR yet.
ND, Stanford, Oregon, Washington to the B1G would guarantee our pick of the corner schools plus Cal. Could be an interesting situation if we only want 4, or maybe we take all five plus Washington State or San Diego State and grow to 18. The B1G would already be at 20, after all.
Cal + SDSU could be a pretty intriguing California base for our league, along with the four corners.
I am still not 100% sold that Oregon makes the B1G. Poor academics and the cable footprint is meh; they may just not be that excited about them. Stanford, UW, and ND (of course) are the easy top 3. I get Cal adds nothing Stanford didn't already give you. But between Cal & Oregon, idk. Oregon makes more sense athletically and financially. Yeah, Oregon wins that tie. They join Nebby as the "dumb" schools.
As far as Big12 takes... 4 corners make 16. I think you have to wait until the ACC splits, and see what are the B1G and SEC leftovers. You might be better off smaller, with a stronger eastern presence, than bigger at 24, if the 4 out west are Cal, SDST, OrgSt and Wazzu. Or maybe even 18 or 21, with three 6 or 7 team divisions (east, north central, sw). Lots of ways it could shake out, keep your powder dry for now of course.
They WILL have to rebrand the thing. Big12 won't make a lick of sense if it is Orlando to Pullman, and WV to Phx...
No one has had 14 years and $800 million x 4 schools to try.Eventually but not for a while. No one has beaten a GOR yet.

There’s a lot of “GORs can be broken” takes and zero actual breaking of GORs. Same as last summer. No one has had 14 years and $800 million x 4 schools to try.
If schools can leave early, before 2036, they will leave soon
