saddest part is that nebraska perpetually has a soft schedule playing in the big10 west. imagine what the record would be in the east.

Story with a pointed lesson: In the Clint Eastwood movie, Unforgiven, the character English Bob, when confronted by Little Bill (Gene Hackman) and his deputies in Big Whiskey, Wyoming for carrying a firearm against a city ordnance, tells Little Bill he thought he was dead from falling off a horse and breaking his neck. Little Bill responds he thought he was dead, too, until he found out it was he was in Nebraska.

Oddly I could Nebraska getting Oklahoma this time.

Kind of a similar feeling to how Texas would look done for years ago and then come out and put it together for OU.

I just don’t see Nebraska every being “Nebraska” again. What do they have to sell…a big stadium and that they were good 30 years ago? In the 90s they were one of the programs always on TV getting exposure, had a ridiculous walk on program among other things. Now everyone is on TV, everyone has facilities and there’s much easier places to recruit to than Lincoln (which is close to zero recruiting hotbeds). I’m 30 years old, have been a huge college football fan for about 15 years. I literally only know Nebraska football as an average at best team.
I have always contended that if NE can be good, anybody can. Same goes for sui.

True but since 2011 they have played Ohio State 8 times, unlike EIU, they are generally on the schedule, including the past 6 seasons.

Worst positioned P2 team? They haven’t won for a decade and they still sellout a huge stadium. Look how many showed up yesterday. Yes all the P2 teams will have money but Nebraska has support beyond most of those teams. All they have to do is hire the right coach. If they make a hire like ISU did they will have bags of money coming in. Money will mean more than ever now with the NIL and transfer rule. Nebraska is one of those teams that is capable of bringing in serious cash but they have to make a good hire and they haven’t done that.
They haven't sold out for years. Biggest myth perpetuated with media hype.

All this...UNL isn't special anymore in any way. No more cheating, no more partial qualifyers, no more criminals, no more steroids...their strength program isn't special anymore, their walk on program isn't special anymore, talented kids leave the state on the regular now, they have to import talent more than ever before because the option is also not special anymore. Everyone needs to listen to the younger folks posting on this board. The perception AND reality is that UNL is not special. And they won't (can't) be.

Well, at least no longer getting away with using steroids. Nouredin Nouili, a starting OG was ruled ineligible in June for failing a NCAA drug test.

The game that broke the Nebraska football program imo was 11/23/2001 vs. Colorado in Boulder. They got obliterated which was crazy at the time.

Ever since that day, the decline has been in place. I think Bo Pelini demonstrated what a pretty good coach could do in the modern CFB landscape with Nebraska, but once Tom Osborne was forced out as AD, Pelini was fired shortly thereafter.

I will never forget that game. Watched the first half at my parents house in NW IA and listened to the second on the radio on my way down to Ames. Iowa and Iowa State played the next day and wanted to get back for an early tailgate.

Another point which I didn’t mention above; we like to think here about how boring the Big Ten is but that being said, they play pretty tough football. Nebraska seems to be one of the softest teams I’ve ever seen. I think NW ran ten or eleven straight runs up the middle and just gashed Nebraska. Anything negative happens and they fold. Seems most years their recruiting is rated pretty high but they don’t produce many nfl players. Their program sucks too to bottom and I’m quite satisfied with that.
It's not 1982 anymore... The B1G doesn't platy any "tougher" than the Big 12 and the defensive numbers the last few years have shown that.

Nebraska will never again reach the heights it had before in the 90's, because it now has lost all the advantages the school had then.
Nebraska was the first school to really get into all the players lifting, and without a doubt many were on steroids. Now every program has an up-to-date weight room, and the players are being tested for illegal substances.

The days of bringing in Prop 48 players are also now gone, and no school profited from the practice more than Nebraska. Throw in an unlimited walk-on program allowed them to keep bringing in players that they did not have to put on scholarship until they proved themselves.

Finally, they are missing the recruiting of the state of Texas, no state close by has the sheer number of quality recruits as Texas, and during their national championship runs, the roster was made up with about 20% of the players from Texas. Few of those kids now even bothering giving Nebraska a second look now, because they never play in the state of Texas, allowing those kids friends and family to come and see them with ease.

Frost is a horrible coach, and totally in over his head, but unless they can bring in the next Saban or someone like that, Nebraska will never again be the power they were.

I think NIL could allow them to compete again. Their fanbase seems like one that would do anything possible to compete again, including dumping millions into NIL money. I don't think they'll ever be a national contender, but the potential is there for them to be a Top 15 program. Weak conference schedule and NIL advantages should allow for 9-10 win seasons.

Campbell will never sign on with an AD like Alberts who meddles with coaching hires. The new guys are no better than the old guys, but it makes it look like he has the magic fix.
CMC is also not a rub elbows with boosters type of coach. There's zero chance he would ever even sniff the Nebby job.

This year is an anomaly for Nebraska's schedule, the B1G has not been kind to them with the cross over games going back to Legends and Leaders.

I've said it a hundred times but I just don't think that NIL is going to impact football like it has hoops. Development and program connections are HUGE when it comes to the NFL. Yes, NIL will certainly be in play but it isn't going to be nearly as filthy as hoops.

Frost will make it to October 1st. After that - who knows? Depends on if they've managed to go on a little run
