A Quick Glance At Iowa

This is my main concern actually. Last year when Dekkers came in mop up time, he hit a bunch of underneath throws to that freshman RB. I watched the highlights of ISU's opener and that seemed to be his bread and butter. Hopefully Iowa is ready for those short crossing routes. We usually play zone, so that should help limit the number of YAC on those.
Iowa had a fair amount 2nd teamers in on the third drive with Dekkers and they were basically in prevent mode. What I do think will change is Dekkers can stretch the field with his arm. Iowa didn’t have to worry about that as much with Purdy.

I don't think that is necessarily true. Brock has a much better arm than some give him credit for.

Just goes to show how good their DST is. Saturday will be a big test for Dekkers.
Iowa has been 5-4 since the PSU game. So their offense would be directly to blame for that kind of record. Would have probably been at least 7-2 over those games with an offense that had a pulse.

I mean it's not like he lit the world on fire in the previous games. He's flat out not even an average QB.

True, but it is one thing to beat teams like Maryland and ISU that played right into Iowa's hands last year as opposed to trying to beat teams like Wisconsin and Michigan with one arm tied behind your back. It isn't a recipe for long term success. Exactly what fans were saying after Iowa beat PSU last year was how long can Iowa keep it up with this abysmal offense. Well we found out, not for long.

At least 7-2 means could be 9-0 which means a national title with a good offense right? ;)

the refs haven't been factors in a CyHawk game at all...we can't get out of our own way and that's why we continue to lose this game
Yes they absolutely have. Did you forget the ghost holding call on us in 2019? If our play would have stood, we would have had first down in FG with 2:00 minutes left. How about the offensive PI late in the 4rth Q where Iowa receiver Vandeburg grabbed our D-back preventing him from getting an INT. That probably would have stopped that Iowa drive and we would have won by 7

Without Jacobs, Iowa is likely to run a lot more 4-2-5 and only play 2 LBs with Cooper Dejean coming in and playing what they call the Cash position which is sort of a hybrid LB/safety role. We’ve used that coverage a bunch in recent years so it’s not new. I am disappointed Jacobs is out because I think he’s one of our better players but we have lots of good DBs so the pass defense isn’t something I’m super worried about.

In general I think the big concern for Iowa is #1 can the offense score any points at all and #2 will the defense get worn down if they get no rest and you keep putting them in bad situations over and over.
I agree, Iowa has a bunch of outstanding DB.....Oh, you meant defensive backs.;)

I hope so, but there's no real precedent for a slaughter.

Most lopsided victory was 0-31 in Ames in 1978.
That game was in Iowa City. They made us play the first few games over there when the series resumed.

Please show tell us who was exactly in that doesnt' normally play, because this discussion came up a while ago and IIRC, there was 1-2 that you might consider backups that were in.

Kirk should have pulled Petras last week for the same reason that Matt pulled Purdy during the Iowa game last year - to save him from himself.

When your confidence has hit rock bottom and boos are raining down upon you (note: boo birds in Iowa City, not Ames), oftentimes the worst thing your coach can do is leave you out there twisting in the wind. You may never recover.

So now we know how it will go down. They pull Petras because he just can't throw and the #2 hits 6TDs and 493 yards. And my bet on ISU already made. ****.

He’s not a heavy hitter so that might have something to do with it

I know it's not in Campbell's MO to pour it on but if we get the chance to I sure hope he does. But to be blunt I just want a W.
