I’m not convinced they have an elite defense. They just play against a bunch of ****** QBs/offenses.
I think Iowa is extremely well coached, disciplined and play really hard but I don’t think they have elite talent on this year’s defense. If they don’t find some offense they will have problems winning Big 10 games, with a few lopsided scores.

Other than turnovers obv, the only concerning thing to me was the kicking and punting. Punt team was inexcusable obv. The FG was shaky at best, and 2/3 kickoffs were returnable iirc. Def gives me a concern.

I wouldnt sweat the TE issue, good LB cancel the TE game and Iowa has real good LB.

The OL gives me hope. Iowa is very stout (not elite) on the front 7, and they ran it fairly well. I guess having 2 tackles instead of 4 guards is a good thing.

I'll tell you what ugly is. It's Brian Ferentz in a rain soaked, white, clingy polo that is 3 sizes too small being shown on my tv and sending his broken QB out to the post game press conference instead of going out there himself to take the heat.

Manning deserves credit for the 99 yd drive. When have we ever done that against Iowa? It was an on the field castration. He does deserve criticism for placing Dekkers in shotgun on the goal line. Overall Manning grades out at “good” in my opinion.

Not exactly sure.
What has happened with our TEs? Did they have even one target yesterday?
Last year we B about no receivers, this year no TEs. We have a nice group of receivers and our TEs are back to blocking TEs mostly. Iowa sent a lot of blitzes or were loading the box and our TEs were kept for protection

Their defense is above average but not great, certainly not as great as the Hawkeye mythmaking machine media that covers Iowa makes it out to be.

Up Nort
Short synopsis and grades. No comments on refs. Decent.

Great
X - No more to be said
D - I hope we can hold Heacock some more years
OL - I can see a "good" instead of great, but very strong today, pass and run blocking. Nice surprise

Good
Brock - Studly effort, but cannot, cannot fumble on the one. Don't care if Rus hit you. Hold the f'n ball.
Kicking - Not a disaster, lol, saying something
Dekkers - We need better effort, young man. Two horrible picks.
QB running - Not great, but lovely to see it part of our offense again

Bad
Manning - wtf not going under center at the one?
TE - Do we even have a competent TE on the squad anymore? wtf?

Ugly
ST - Wow, getting one punt blocked is insane, two is inexusable
Campbell - Can we show up for an Iowa game once? 3 turnovers, 2 blocked punts. You have a gold bar up your ass to win this one.

Thank God you started a new thread to give us all your expert opinion, Rod.

I think I can speak for all of us when I say that everyone was on the edge of their seat waiting to know what you thought about the game. After scouring the multiple existing threads and not finding anything from you, you could imagine how relieved I was to see this. Thanks again, Rod!

Amen.

I only hope that Campbell, Manning, and Heacock will have the wisdom to read and learn from this thread.

ISU's TEs are new and will come around. Playing to the strengths of Hutch and Noel was good to see in the meantime.

wasn't that a TE that made the amazing catch on the sideline?
