Lunacy. No substantial number of fans attacked the kicker himself. Made jokes about special teams, sure. Got mad at the offense, yes. Went after the kicker personally? Nope.

This is a guy who's been told his sht doesn't stink for too long. Hard to preach accountability if you won't practice it yourself.

Another mea culpa. I was actually sober but pretty frustrated when I said this part in bold, and I regret it.

But I only regret the ugly thing I said, not the sentiment behind it. This is the first time Campbell is facing real heat - both for the short-term situation of consecutive losses piling up and the longer term problem of offensive frustration and general failure to execute - and speeches and talk of accountability aren't enough anymore.

Shut down because people are saying things you don’t agree with…dude, seriously, get a grip.

We are hardly on track for 7 wins- if you think we are, please tell us where those 4 wins are going to come from out of our 6 remaining games? Really- you think we’re going to win 4 out of our last 6? I think maybe you’re the one having the meltdown with reality. We might beat Tech and WVU at home…those are big mights. Then again, I thought those would be easy wins last year too. There’s a real possibility we only win one, maybe two more games this year. We’re right on track for a 4/5 win season, which would be the second year in a row we fall well short of expectations.

Then you want us to be happy that our offense isn’t as bad as Iowa’s- possibly the worst possible offense in the country? Since when do winners take pleasure in not being as bad as the biggest loser? This would be like a hot dog vendor who sells 4” hot dogs bragging that he’s better than the guy down the street who sells the 3” hot dogs. Football is a game of inches (so we’ve been told) and last night and the week before, we brought the 4 incher thinking that it was enough. Jereseib- stop trying to convince yourself that 4 inches is enough, it isn’t.
7-5 is still possible if they improve, 6-6 and a bowl game is still very much a possibility. That's exactly where alot of people thought we'd be thus year after losing ao much offensive talent.

But how many wouldn’t have even noticed if Travis Hines hadn’t latched on to this one line and told them (you) to be offended?

Be offended or concerned if you want I guess. I’m annoyed by the lack of offense but ignoring this quote.
Yeah, that's where I am, now. I'm not as offended by some, about what Hines quoted. And yes, I am guilty of not listening to the presser (still haven't yet). So I am content with letting Campbell do his thing.

I still feel some changes need to be made, after the season, if not discretely during the remaining games this year.

Lol, some of you guys are hilarious. I spent years trying to tell you guys how bad and over his head Steve Prohm was but the minute I stick up for the best thing that's happened to this athletic department in decades it's the same 4 guys jumping me. Never change guys.

Never said things shouldn't change or the fans didn't respond positively last night.

We had a lot of people that were complete idiots last week. Good for Coach to call them out.

As I have stated elsewhere, Coach said the lack of offense is on him. He said he is in the meetings that sets the strategy.
You also said "it was absurd what fans said and did." Were there message board people with bad takes? Yes. But was there something major that happened that we're unaware of (as in the did part)?

And the meetings you're reverting to again, he said he sees good things. CMC is protecting his guys (players and coaches). Nothing wrong with that and good leaders take the blame. Good leaders also know when change is needed internally and I know we all hope to see some of that before next season.

Campbell is part of the issues for sure. The offense and special teams have been bad and they're not being addressed. Yesterday KState called that time out on our fourth down play. Then Matt had to use a TO to make his mind up after having extra time. Bad bad decision. Y lo u have you get that 4th down now with only 2 time outs.

I'll continue to argue all week that the emotions of the quote are probably good for us. Campbell's pissed. He's smart enough to know that he's not really pissed at the fans. But he just grabbed the first thing to be pissed about and said something stupid.
There's no proof that he isn't really pissed at the fans.

That quote sounds like he is plenty pissed at the fans, for daring to question him and demanding his pal be fired for incompetence.

Really- who are those wins coming against? I’m all about optimism, but every team we have left has looked good for the most part. I think our best chance at a win is against Oklahoma…I can’t believe I just said that, but I think it’s true.

And you’re saying ‘if’ we improve…and that’s great, I hope we improve too. However, what do you see that suggests that we’ll improve consistently going forward? Our special teams looked good last night and that was an improvement, but then we continued to regress in other areas and still lost the game. Heck, we even won the turnover battle for once, but still managed to lose.

There are serious problems internally on this team- us average fans won’t know what those problems are until after the season is over. Something is wrong in that locker room- there’s no improvement coming until some personnel changes are made.

That was absolutely astounding. There is no possible excuse for wasting a very valuable timeout in that situation.

Yes because calling out the fans for being ******** to the kicker means he was pissed at the fans for being pissed at Manning.

I'm not going to throw the defense under the bus because it's been really good, but if we are talking facts here they did get shredded last year by very pedestrian West Virginia and Tech, 2 of the easiest games on the schedule last year.
Yes, but even against Tech, our offense had multiple opportunities late in the game to win it, but failed to execute. The D can only do so much- at the end of the day, the O has to put points on the board and the fact is, they just ain’t scoring.

Matt painted with to broad of a brush. Most felt for the kid that I know. I was hoping he made his first kick last night for him and not the team. He needed to build back confidence. Miss his first and he could have been a head case.

We need to be able to score 20 points a game, period. Not in OT, just in the game. That won’t win all the games but with our D, we will win more than we lose. We need TDs.
The last two weeks, I thought ISU was in great position at the half after overcoming some adversity. In both games, I was thinking, just score a TD, and this game will belong to the Cyclones! No TDs. No victories. So close, so close!

I still think going to a bowl is completely on the table. It's just frustrating that we lost 2 games that we should have won (KU and KSU). I think we probably could have won the Baylor game too, but that's more disputable.

Also possible we could lose out. I think we'll need to make some offensive adjustments or will need people to step up to get those wins.

Most likely winnable games today:
* Oklahoma (Home)
* WVU (Home)

Then we just need an upset or a good game for one of these:
* Texas (Away)
* Oklahoma State (Away)
* Texas Tech (Home)
* TCU (Away)

I think all of those games are winnable and all of them are losable.

The defense last year also just wasn't that good particularly on the back end and on 3rd and long, etc.

But that was LAST year. THIS year the defense has it together for the most part and has hardly any help.

Last year's offense with this year's defense is probably looking at 5 or 6 wins right now.

Do you think ISU has the Oline to run these concepts? Or speed out of the receivers?

So all we can do is run between the tackles and throw 3-4 yd drag routes then? We surely don't need to pay an OC a million bucks a year to run only that.

Message boards......throw in Twitter, Instagram, all conversations that are not public, and his email account. Good for Coach to call these idiots out.

It is very possible he is seeing improvements over the first two games when we didn't play anyone with a defense.

Agreed. If we had an average offense this year we would be 6-0.

I would love to be wrong and tip my hat to you at the end of the season as I’m getting on a plane to go to our bowl game…

However, I think the last part of your post is correct: we could improve and win 5 of our last 6. It’s certainly possible we lose every one of them too…nobody has any idea what will happen.

The take away: have fun, enjoy life, love your significant other and kids, and for Pete’s sake, whatever you do, don’t bet a single dollar on an Iowa State game the rest of the season.
