So I can’t name podcasts but I do follow lots of sports personalities on social media who have commented on Iowa State getting screwed. Hell, even Saturday we had John Kurtz from KState who agreed we got hosed.
Nick Osen from 247 also tweeted out something along the lines of ISU not getting favorable calls since he’s taken the job, and he’s actually quite unbiased in covering us.
I agree, a two touchdown or plus difference suddenly takes all the pressure off requiring every favorable call or every single play being decisive.I’ll take the loss and move on, no hard feelings.
I just feel like when the whole concept is to run the clock to limit possessions and keep games low scoring and close, executing in the margins is critical. In the last 9 close games we’re 1-8 in those. If we win in the margins in any of them it doesn’t matter what the refs do with the possible exception of the Texas game.
Because of how we want to play, reffing has an oversized impact on any given game. The fix is to actually win in the margins and/or do more on offense which we saw for the first time this weekend.
He never used to react to them. It’s a recent thing and only been on egregious ones where they don’t give a realistic answer.Campbell's reaction to bad calls goes a long way explaining why the team has difficulty overcoming them. As a fan I react the same way but a coach needs to be a step ahead.
It doesn’t have to be either or for God sakes lol. I can say that we made absolutely critical mistakes and had we not made them we likely win. I can also say in spite of all that, if the officials make the correct call, we likely win.
Your opinions often moderate mine when I start going over the edge. I don't feel I, or "most" of us have gone over the edge when it comes to complaining. The rule is inconsistent even within the same game, let across CFB. But people seem to think there is some grand conspiracy against ISU and there isn’t. This fan base already has a national reputation of blaming every game on refs and constantly rehashing the Baylor and Texas games for the next 9 months is only going to further that perception. It looks petty.
Yup, bad calls suck, it they happen in every game and have been a part of football for over 100 years.
Spot on. And you are correct, that’s exactly what and why I started this place for. I’m just letting my frustration get to me like so many others. I did like the progress this week but it almost hurts more because I think the changes made were the same ones asked for a long time ago. But better late than never.Your opinions often moderate mine when I start going over the edge. I don't feel I, or "most" of us have gone over the edge when it comes to complaining.
All fan bases complain about stuff. I guess that's part of being an fan. I was just about to the point of shutting it down (posting as much, etc.) just before the TX game, due to apathy. We were that bad (offensively and play calling). After this week, I have hope again.
There are a few complainers that are over the top. It often creates more interest though and widens a POV, even though sometimes distasteful. Didn't you start CF with grassroots complaining, essentially? I don't remember the full history.
As far as "grand conspiracy" by the refs, against us, probably not. But you have to admit, there have been some real doozies, in both FB and BB, over the years. Calls that were pretty bad, way off! I was thinking of 4-5 others, off the top of my head (no pun intended) during this possible targeting no-call against Hunter.
So yeah, we need to be careful not to overdo it. But my word, when bad calls are made, I fully expect a reaction from Cyclone fans.
It just comes down to mistakes. We make too many. And as a result every bad call is game changing.
Pick in the end zone, dropped passes, blocked punt etc
The guys gave it all they had, and showed great improvement, why it took till the middle of October to put together a reasonable offense attack, I have no idea. but when every game you play is almost guaranteed to be a coin flip, you can’t make those mistakes.
Perhaps we are evolving into a team that tries to score as much as possible and as often as possible, with urgency. You know, before the other team does the same to you! That might be nice. That’s true, but the strategy of playing to keep the score close and hope for a chance at the end also plays into it. When that’s your strategy, every mistake and every bad call looms larger.
I see Cover 3 podcast and Unnecessary Roughness continuously say that ISU got hosed and should've won. Cover 3 podcast during the Baylor game were commenting how terrible the reffing was in that game.I'm looking for podcasts that talk about us always blaming officials. Apparently we have a national reputation for it.
We are hosers!I see Cover 3 podcast and Unnecessary Roughness continuously say that ISU got hosed and should've won. Cover 3 podcast during the Baylor game were commenting how terrible the reffing was in that game.
Brandon Walker also tweeted out the bs calls against us in that game, he also recently tweeted about the Texas game how we got hosed.

We have some difficult matchups coming up so I’m hopeful we can continue to grow. Personally I’m not worried about a bowl game, I just want to see continued growth each game and especially in positions I think we have a ton of questions about for next year. WR, TE, possibly RB, etc.
My feeling is that if I can be nice to you, get you to agree with me once in a while, I will have you in my corner. Then, when CW or the moderators want to ban me for something stupid I said, I will have you on my side to bail me out!Dude, calm down. I simply stated my opinion like everybody else here. Some people like to think because I created the place that somehow I’m trying to use some moral ground. Or because I argue from a place of not rose colored glasses that I’m trying to be better than others. That’s just dumb and a way for people to continue their them vs the world view.
I’m simply saying that SOME people like to blame all close losses on the refs. Not everybody and yes others in other fanbases do that too, but when we’ve earned a reputation for it, it’s probably others beyond me that have that opinion.
Do you re-call the game clock time on those? I'd like to go back and re-watch. Thx!There were two egregious calls/no calls. First was the roughing. Just brutally horrible. Right after that was no call on blatant pass interference on ISU.
I’ll take the loss and move on, no hard feelings.

Midway through the second quarter. Roughing penalty was terrible and converted a 3rd down on Texas’ first TD.Do you re-call the game clock time on those? I'd like to go back and re-watch. Thx!
I call foul! It's either or brother. You can't have it both ways! Get off the fence! It doesn’t have to be either or for God sakes lol. I can say that we made absolutely critical mistakes and had we not made them we likely win. I can also say in spite of all that, if the officials make the correct call, we likely win.
This might be part of an evolution in officiating. So what you are saying is the officials aren't very good and inconsistent in their calling and could easily catch mistakes with replay? Thanks for proving my point.
My main point behind all of this is that in both football and basketball we, the viewers can see things better from 1000 miles away than a lot of these referees and umpires. There are many reasons for this, but I don't understand why we don't utilize more technology to provide a better officiated game. It is absolutely possible.
Heck, you could even have juries deciding plays as fast as officials do right now. And if you say that the whole thing would slow down because their are infractions on every play. Then you have just proven my point again. The officials are having to pick and choose what is and what isn't worth calling on every play which is the definition of inconsistency.
For instance. I could have looked at the quarterback hit yesterday and replayed it twice before I had to call roughing the passer while sitting in the comfort of my home (or a back room at the stadium) It is easier to see that that hit was bang, bang, not driven to the ground using excessive force or purposefully rolling over on (or whatever stupid excuse they would have given if questioned) than some dude seeing it out the corner of his eye and assuming it "must have been bad" because they are watching the field and didn't see the whole combination of events from a good vantage point.
I believe there are ways to make this better and to get rid of some of the biases that individuals have by crowdsourcing. Go ahead and beat me up on this. But, I think it is a viable answer to the problem.
