I’m probably 5x per week but it’s usually one beer, maybe 1-2 times a week I will have two. Almost never more. Maybe holidays or an occasional family get together, but even then I usually max out at 4-5. Totally flipped from my 20s when I would be one weekend night only and often go all out.

My answer is yes. However, I've been doing Sober October and holding strong 19 days in.

EDIT: California Sober October
My friend was so proud how he didnt have a single drink in March. I was like how much weed did you smoke and it was every night for him.

I was really big into wine, scotch, and craft or classic cocktails (I’d routinely have a thousand dollars or more in about a dozen bottles in my home bar). Would never have more than a couple at a time and would almost never have something if I wasn’t really enjoying/appreciating it. About a year ago I just stopped, no particular reason for it, and haven’t had anything since other than a single pour out of a friend’s $500 bottle of scotch a couple months ago. At this point I’d be very surprised if I ever starting drinking again, I just don’t see the point.

I have a beverage pretty much every night, usually an imperial stout or old fashioned or gin martini, sometimes just a simple glass of scotch. I keep track of my daily caloric intake, and always make sure the calories from my drinks fit in my daily total. I never drink to intoxication, usually just to enjoy the flavors of a good beverage, and I loosely try to stay around or under the recommended no more than 15 “standard drinks” per week. Also workout about 4-5 days per week.

All that to say, my weight is fine, my muscle mass is good, and my blood pressure, cholesterol, and other health markers are normal. So I think that drinking pretty much every day is perfectly fine as part of a healthy, balanced, and moderate lifestyle.

Psychologically, every now and again I’ll go 2-5 days without drinking just to test myself - do I get headaches? Do I feel depressed if I don’t have a drink? Those would be red flags for me if they occurred

I'm an alky so I don't drink at all anymore.

But one a night I don't think is anything to worry about, a lot of people enjoy a nightcap.

Only thing I'd worry about is if the volume increases, as it becomes more ritualistic. When you don't necessarily want to but do anyways as it's part of your nightly routine like brushing your teeth, I'd revisit the question.
Yeah, I also make sure to go a week or so every now and then. Even though I’m usually a one a night guy, I always want to check myself now and then.

Another thing to watch would be how it affects your sleep. If you’re chronically getting poor sleep it could be from your body processing the booze.

I used to have a beer most Friday and saturdays but I hated how crappy I slept those nights so now I never have a beer just because. Typically now it’s just socially.

Probably average 3-4 drinks per week over the course of 2-3 nights. I have zero interest in getting drunk.

For the most part yes. There are studies that show some extremely minor benefits of one drink but those same studies also say that if you have more then one the benefit goes away and if you get to moderate drinking that actually starts harming your cardiovascular health. Harvard medical journal put out an article on this last month because the pandemic saw drastic increased in alcohol consumption and our understanding has improved.

Feel free to drink one drink or even 2 depending on your gender and size, but many people in the medical community have switched to edibles over alcohol. (Pandemic years didn’t count)
Talk to me about the edibles.

Yeah, I think there have been some studies more recently that have really dialed back on that idea.

Oh you mean not putting alcohol through your system is better than putting alcohol in your system? Never listen to the Europeans.

I mostly only drink with food, beverages with supper. If I have a beer, it's usually one. If I drink wine (I really like wine) I have more than a glass. Sort of alternate between beer and wine so I don't drink too much with beer being my moderator drink. I like beer but find a single bottle is usually plenty. Like tonight and last night, had a Summit EPA with a steak for supper. I am less reserved with the wine so if I drank wine all of the time I think I'd end up drinking maybe too much.
