Is your trust in CMC lost to fix this offense in 2023 and beyond?

This postgame question/answer doesn't give me a ton of hope at the moment:

Question:
The inability to score inside the five yard line, what was going on there?

Campbell:
Yeah, you know I don't know exactly what's going on there. Obviously I'll have a better answer of why. You know I thought they were good play calls. I thought really, man, there was a lack of execution and why that happened I don't know.

He can barely look up from the podium.

It seems like CMC has been missing some of his enthusiasm for the game this year and the lack of enthusiasm has trickled down through some of the staff and players. Maybe it started with losing out on a couple of high profile jobs last year, then having this year becoming a disaster. Hopefully he will move pass this and regain the drive necessary to compete at an elite level. This offseason will be very interesting.

I never thought we'd be having this type of conversation about Campbell, really. I thought he would be our coach for life, if he wanted it. I thought he could do no wrong.

I do not feel this way now. It is clear that he has made many poor coaching decisions, including scheme, coaching cronyism, etc., for some time now.

I am fed up with his coach speak, and realize he is far different with the team. It doesn't matter. The fans need some hope; he doesn't know how to give it to them. He is tight lipped to a fault. The team doesn't show growth. The offensive coaches do not make good decisions.

He has another year to make the needed decisions and to try to begin the turn around. He has earned that much. I am not sure he is willing to do it. If he calls it a 4th rebuild I think I may puke.

Noteworthy: Campbell's contract extension is through 2028. I hate to discuss that but maybe we should?

The same guy that went after fans for being critical of a kicker outright blames his players for today’s mess.

I really don’t think Matt knows offense at all. He’s always been a defensive guy.

So hire a young creative offensive mind and give him basically the reins to do whatever he wants and stay out of it.

I’m no expert but something is fundamentally wrong running the ball. Our worst teams ran the ball better than this.

Through 2028…seriously? OMG, just when I thought I couldn’t feel worse.

I think he knows plenty of offense but is too stubborn to make adjustments, or to consistently stay with new schemes (and not ones that don't work, for whatever reason).

He did play defense in college, but I think all of his college coaching experience has been of the offensive side.

I hope he is not too stubborn to not make the needed offensive adjustments (coaching), ST's also, this off season.

I saw some small things tonight that makes me believe they are trying. The two QB sneaks from under center on 3rd and 1 were HUGE. Dekkers took off and ran on a QB draw, which was good. There was a Wildcat on at least one play (unless I had too much vodka, uh, tonic). There was a different FG kicker. So, I think they tried, but it was not successfull across the board + a mix of the Iowa stubborn with the three straight line plunges inside the five yard-line and the maddening line plunge on 4th down after the time-out. So, they are trying, but they need to get some gitty-up in their step, as they are not newbis anymore!

He is very much like Mike Shula was at Alabama. Shula recruited well, had GREAT defenses all four years (2003-6), but he fancied himself an X and O offensive coach like his dad! I think that is what the issue is with Campbell. All he has to do is go hands off and hire a hot shot offensive co-ordinator like Saban did and let them do their thing! If Shula would have done that, he would have never been fired, and there would not have been a Saban. Additionally, Campbell flat out needs to hire a Special teams Coach. My goodness! Just quit being Iowa Stubborn MC and be a GREAT CEO!

@LAClone I don't mind getting the dumb, but why is my comment dumb?

Unfortunately, we have all seen this before. A coach comes in and has early success. We all worry he will move on elsewhere. He gets an extension. Then win/loss records implode.

Life of an Iowa state fan.

I fear really dark times on the horizon.

Probably an alt for Stormin. The defenders of CMC have tried to hide after that trash that was on display yesterday.

As a side note I now have alot more respect for Brock Purdy. The dude may have been a straight genius to be able to score like he did for us. I can also understand what he may have told his brother and why Chubba is not at ISU.

By definition they were not good play calls if they failed. And for record, I believe the same play call failed 5 times. Failure does not equal good. That comment alone shows how desperate he is to save manning.

I'd say I'm off the CMC bandwagon as well. This off season will be a put up or shut up situation in terms of making changes because if they look this bad next year his seat is going to be hot.
