Did you have a 6'8" guy jumping out to block the shot while looking at the rim, after running up and down the court for 30 minutes on tired legs? Although, I somewhat agree with you. I was a legend in my own mind and shot well over 50% from deep in intramural/pickup play, thus find it difficult that they shoot so low. I was actually asked if I wanted to try out for the gray shirt practice squad (mid 80s), but as a 6' slow white guy in engineering, knew the correct answer was no.

I’m surprised they gave you an answer and just didn’t laugh, jk

Re: 3 point shooting it is remarkable how bad it goes considering how it basically evolved into a jump shot that every position can hit in today's game.

Does something go on where those types of skills aren't a part of the deal? AAU?

How are guys continously this bad at 3s? I've been on 3 Division 1 courts, Bramalage, Hilton, and Cameron Indoor, and it's not a long distance at all.

I was shocked how close it is compared to how far the 3 point and free throw lines look on TV, yet we have guys chucking up bricks all the time.

I’m guessing that tenacious d has at least some effect on their legs vs a team that doesn’t play that way.

I noticed Lipsey was left open around the 3 point line several times last night and he didn't bother to shoot it except for 1 attempt late in the game that he airballed. So guessing 3 point shooting is not going to be his thing as he's 0-3 right now (all from last night actually 0 attempts in 1st 2 games) and defense last night was practically daring him to shoot it at times it felt like. I'm not expecting Lipsey to be much of a scorer this year, he looks fine on defense and running the point which is all I can hope for a true freshman to be a good ball distributor all things considered right now.

Not trying to pile on Grill but just don't think he's going to be the type of 3 point shooter we had all hoped for. Once Gabe is healthy would like to see him get more of Grill's minutes on nights Grill is not shooting well as Gabe seems to have a higher ceiling as a scorer than Grill and while Grill does play good defense Gabe last year was supposedly our best on-ball defender.

Team shoots 25% from 3, so that is surely going to be near the bottom of the Big 12. I am hoping we cut down the number of 3's we take, but not likely to happen I bet. Seems as if TJ is content to let them shoot until they make one. Grill needs to be smarter about how to take his 3's. Get open, get your feet set and body squared up before you shoot. These hurried 3's go about 1 out of 10. Not helping the team at all.

Sorry if dumb question, and honestly, it's probably not even known at this point....but thoughts as to whose minutes Tre King eats into upon his return?

I suspect Jaz, Ward, and Osun should still all end up getting about the same minutes as they currently do, and I really like what I've seen out of Watson in the time he's been in.

So that mostly leaves some combination of Bob Jones' minutes and maybe some odd shifting around of platoons that effectively reduce Grill/Gabe's total minutes a bit?

Just spitballing; not trying to bag on any particular guy. We could certainly use an additional, or consistent, scoring threat. And from what I've read about him, King has the potential to be one.

I hope so too. If they're not gonna hit them, I hope they are a lot more selective, at least more so than they were last night. I think Lipsey's airball might have been the worst 3 point attempt I've ever seen in my life as a basketball fan.

It looked like a person that has never shot a basketball thinks a shot is supposed to look like.

Gotta love this place…. nearly everyone on here is ripping on Grill constantly, and basically saying he provides nothing, and I just say “yeah, I wish he was a senior” …. and everyone goes off on me.

The hatred is crazy. Whatever. I have nothing against any of you for whatever that’s worth.
What would this place be like if we were all the same? LOL

As far as Grill goes, and is presently shooting, it's non-con, and TJ wants to see what he may or may not have. It's clear, or probably clear, that Grill is not a good 3 pt shooter (most games).

I will say about Grill what I said about Gabe, last year. He should get the red light, most of the time, on 3's, if he hasn't made his first 2 or three. Don't keep hitting your head up against the wall. Stick with the mid-range game. Same with Gabe.

That said, other teams will likely be clogging the middle, zone, whatever, trying to get us to shoot the 3. We will still have to take some of those. Nights we are just not hitting, we may lose against the better teams.

Lipsey’s 3pt percentage at Ames was 34% in his career and 22% his senior year. He has some major improvement needed for him to really be any sort of scoring threat beyond driving into the paint and drawing fouls.

I'm still enjoying this young season and will take whatever it gives me.

But my oh my watching a backcourt that cannot shoot is difficult.

Kalscheur, Lipsey, Watson, and Grill are a combined 8/39 (20.5%) from three.

The trajectory of the offense would be completely different had AJ Green taken about 30 of those shots (and made about 13 or 14 of them in the process). Oh well. So much for that plan.

At least this is better than the Prohm years, which so often featured undersized guards who could neither shoot nor defend in the Big 12. These guys can't shoot but they're not small and they D the **** out.
And TJ has done extremely well with retaining and recruiting his first and now second year classes. We were close to getting AJ Greene, would have had Jeremiah (not a great shooter maybe, but another option at guard and PG). Those two options didn't pan out.

Now that TJ is and has established his culture, including strong D, I would be surprised if he doesn't push for some shooters/snipers in the near future (even moreso than Omaha Momcilovic), especially from the guard court. That is where we could see a dramatic improvement.

I've got a big hunch that after some losses the Greene thing falling through will come up like it was TJ's fault that AJ was maybe just ready to move on.

Blaming the men's head basketball coach for something.......anything.

CF did start as "firewaynemorgan.com" so I guess that would be staying on topic.

You've clearly never watched a fan attempt to unguarded shoot 3's during games during on of the promos.
