That would be a good OT thread. Most stacked RB rooms ever in an individual season.
Miami's has to be up there: Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Frank Gore.
It would be interesting differentiate great college backfields (Dickerson/James) vs. RB Room. Like you said Miami was spectacular. USC was great with Reggie Bush & LenDale White.

It would be fun to look at USC, OU, UNL during the 70's/early 80's.

Koch brothers at one time were considering funding a revival IIRC.
I know at one time there was some talk. I did a quick search, it seems what I remember was from about 2016 from everything that came up in a search. The AD had posted some pics of a football helmet and marching band uniforms etc. and started a lot of speculation. Seems a lot of the stories and articles stem from that time.

I don't know much more than that, other than I remember some talk a few years ago, and now see they are going to replace their stadium. So maybe. I suppose they could just use it for track etc, but It seems like they would not need that big of a stadium just for track.

With all the talk of realignment and they had reached out to the Mt West at one point, maybe they are seeing they need a FB program to be able to move up.

USC RBs from that period with overlapping roster timeline:
  • Anthony Davis (1972-74) and Ricky Bell (1974-76)
  • Charles White (1976-79) and Marcus Allen (1978-81)

Mike Rozier and Roger Craig overlapped at Nebraska.

Ahman Green and Lawrence Phillips the same.

Phillips was out a lot from his own issues but that's a lot of football talent.

I almost added them, but I prefer to forget that Lawrence Phillips even existed.

;)

I remember going to an Iowa State Nebraska game and ISU was getting absolutely crushed. kNU pulled the starters and then this freshman back started absolutely destroying the ISU defense. That freshman turned out to be Ahman Green.

Was that the year they went to a bowl game and all 3 of them were hurt so Walter Payton's kid played RB for that game? That may have been a year later, after Portis graduated.

At OU, and more consecutive than overlapping:

Greg Pruitt (1969-1972)
Joe Washington (1972-1975)
Billy Sims (1975-1979)

... ranked as the 5th, 3rd, and 2nd best all-time OU running backs, respectively, here:

I would love to see a high profile P5 program try to run the triple option. Army, Navy, AF and even Ga Tech have had some success over the last decade, but would be fun if a P5 in a recruiting rich area would try to run.

Back in the 70's/80's it was a blast to watch the Sooners with their great backs, but more so the outstanding QB's who made the split second decision on who carried the ball. Thomas Lott, JC Watts, Jamelle Holieway made the triple option an exciting offense.
