What an effing joke the IHSAA is.
I know a HS coach who had to sit out a game for giving one of his HS athletes a ride to an offseason tournament.
They'll suspend a coach for trying to help a kid but won't get involved in a sexual assault case. Pathetic.
I think it's more of a problem that people are asking them to get involved because the school and coaches won't do what needs to be done. It should fall on the kids parents, then the coaches, then administrators, then the school board to take care of this very swiftly but evidently some of our schools are run by people to scared of some frivolous lawsuit that would never hold water in court to what should be so easy to see as the right thing. This wasn't a kid making a mistake. This wasn't a kid getting drunk and doing something stupid. This wasn't a kid cheating on a test. This was one kid ruining another kids life as a 16 year old and if there's any hope of helping the perpetrator ever become a decent human being, there needs to be a very harsh lesson learned here. Costing him his wrestling career would be small potatoes compared to what the victim will endure for the rest of their life. This kind of stuff, albeit usually much less consequential, is part of the reason for deteriorating trust in school systems but administrators and school boards in particular seem to either have their hands tied or lack the conviction to do the right things. In this scenario I cannot imagine what would tie the hands of decision makers in a real way so I'm going to just assume they are all cowards lacking the conviction or morality to do the right thing from not only a penal standpoint but from the standpoint of what's good for that kid going forward. I can tell you that if I had kids in that district and it was run by administrators and board like this there would either be change or open enrollment very quickly. I cannot imagine thinking this is okay.
