What an effing joke the IHSAA is.

I know a HS coach who had to sit out a game for giving one of his HS athletes a ride to an offseason tournament.

They'll suspend a coach for trying to help a kid but won't get involved in a sexual assault case. Pathetic.

I think it's more of a problem that people are asking them to get involved because the school and coaches won't do what needs to be done. It should fall on the kids parents, then the coaches, then administrators, then the school board to take care of this very swiftly but evidently some of our schools are run by people to scared of some frivolous lawsuit that would never hold water in court to what should be so easy to see as the right thing. This wasn't a kid making a mistake. This wasn't a kid getting drunk and doing something stupid. This wasn't a kid cheating on a test. This was one kid ruining another kids life as a 16 year old and if there's any hope of helping the perpetrator ever become a decent human being, there needs to be a very harsh lesson learned here. Costing him his wrestling career would be small potatoes compared to what the victim will endure for the rest of their life. This kind of stuff, albeit usually much less consequential, is part of the reason for deteriorating trust in school systems but administrators and school boards in particular seem to either have their hands tied or lack the conviction to do the right things. In this scenario I cannot imagine what would tie the hands of decision makers in a real way so I'm going to just assume they are all cowards lacking the conviction or morality to do the right thing from not only a penal standpoint but from the standpoint of what's good for that kid going forward. I can tell you that if I had kids in that district and it was run by administrators and board like this there would either be change or open enrollment very quickly. I cannot imagine thinking this is okay.

This should serve as a case study on how not to handle allegations against a student athlete. I don't think you can have possibly handled it worse.
Worse would have been let him wrestle in the first 2 duals and first tournament, but yes it was handled very badly.

Very well said. All of it. To build on this portion, if Kade didn't feel any appropriate level of punishment here why would anyone expect an appropriate level of change or self reflection from him? This is a paint by numbers on how to teach someone there are no consequences.

It's Iowa Hawkeyes 101 to a tee. Head in sand hope it goes away, then backed to a corner and have to do "the right thing" out of saving your ass not because you care about the issue.
Saw a report from WHO-13 a couple of days ago where Rob Sand, state auditor, had asked for some paperwork on the 50 year utilities deal the U of I has for like 1.2 billion. Largest state loan ever. Lots of questions on this deal. See that Iowa was not very forthcoming with information as usual. Here is the article the Gazette has on it.

Can you imagine the uproar if something like this had been perpetrated by him on a girl? I'd venture to guess they would have found a way around the worried about litigation non-sense, or whatever other reason they found to not immediately keep him away from the team.

It's totally sickening to me that there are apparently a large number of people in leadership positions that seem to chalk it up to "boys being boys" as opposed to a serious assault.

I don't necessarily have a dog in this fight but what a colossal mishandling of this by the Roland Story district. I had a talk with my son who's involved with several sports at school about this. His initial reaction made me a little concerned because most sophomore boys are morons, my kid included. I had to hammer home how serious something like this is to him so he understood how serious this was. He dealt with being the target of some bullying during the baseball season this summer so after explaining it to him on those terms I think it finally got through to him.

The other thing that I hope comes out of this situation is every school district in the state should be taking a look at their student conduct policies. I would like to think that the punishment for a sexual assault is orders magnitude more severe than something like a vape pen. I'm planning on having a talk with a coworker who is on the school board about how that would all work and put a bug in his ear about maybe having a look at our policy.

Yep. My son went through something similar. He was getting bullied by other boys and they were grabbing his chest. I went to the school to complain and their stance was just boys being boys. Then I ask what their stance was if it were my daughter getting her chest grabbed. It was like a light bulb turned on in their head. They ended up suspending the boys that were doing it.

This ********* of "locker room talk" and "oh they are just boys" has to stop. I would bet my next paycheck that if this was a girl that this happened to that little f*cker would not be in school.

I wonder how many school boards will look at this and review all their policies. If they were smart they would.

He would have been tried as an adult, sent to prison, and likely be on the receiving end of what he did.

"This is a very difficult time for our school district and the entire Roland-Story community. We ask that we all refrain from spreading rumors like this one, as they can be disruptive to teaching and learning. As we know, unchecked rumors spread especially quickly over social media. We also continue to encourage students and parents to contact district administrators or teachers.”

This seems like a terrible quote. Ahh, you did this to yourselves! Come on man.

Well I see the PR crisis mismanagement continues.

I'm going to guess Knoxville not wrestling against you is more wanting to distance themselves from the complete clown show going on in your district as opposed to not wanting to wrestle against the one individual...
