He would have been tried as an adult, sent to prison, and likely be on the receiving end of what he did.
That is the most frustrating thing. I also wonder if anything has been said to the guy that was assaulted??? Has the school communicated with the family? Has the little f*cker that did this made an apology (not that it would help)?? Have the little f*ckers parents contacted the other guys parents to offer an apology? I hate to say it, but I hope that all the wrestling meets for RS get canceled this year. Yes it sucks for the ones that are innocent, but it provides an extremely important life lesson for all about the consequences for your actions. I just can not believe the parents and Administrators are losing this to go on.

Assuming there's pending litigation I bet no mutual contact has been made.

Yep, and that is sad. If one of my boys did something like this, I don't know what I would do, but I know that they would face the full consequences for their actions. I have instilled in them that all the decisions you make in life will follow you your entire life, and you alone are the only one responsible.

I was on RS High School FB page. They will allow you to "like" and "share' but you can not comment on anything.
If you go to the Elementary page it allows you to do all 3. I don't know if that is normal or not.

The other thing that I hope comes out of this situation is every school district in the state should be taking a look at their student conduct policies. I would like to think that the punishment for a sexual assault is orders magnitude more severe than something like a vape pen. I'm planning on having a talk with a coworker who is on the school board about how that would all work and put a bug in his ear about maybe having a look at our policy.
As a former school administer in Minnesota, I know how frustrating these things are. It is hard to understand, but when dealing with punishment and consequences, you can't make it up as you go along and treat each case on its own. You have to follow your district's policies. This was a total failure on the part of the policy writers for the district. They simply did not leave an out for the district on very serious situations like this. I assume it went to progressive punishment and if this was the first or second offense, then the punishment was not very heavy. And, if Iowa is anything like Minnesota, most policies are based on recommendations by the state's school board association so I would guess most schools in Iowa have a similar set of policies.

I totally understand everyone who is saying the coach should do something, the principal should do something, the superintendent should do something and/or the school board should do something. They can only do what their policies allow. More than that, they will get sued, a judge will allow the athlete to compete while the case is being prepared, the district nearly always will lose, the kid will still get to compete, and the district's insurer will pay out. Insurance rates go up and more of our tax dollars go that way. This is what the district's attorney is telling them.

I was also a former coach and where I would have started in this district would be to see what the handbook for the wrestling program said about issues, as coaches often have clear rules and expectations set as to what it takes to be a member of this team. I would always include for the more serious things that "discipline may include being removed from the team." Student athletes and their parents would sign it so there was no confusion as to what the expectations would be. I know that does not sound like much, but that is the type of starting point that is needed.

Again, a very unfortunate and frustrating situation. I see the district is already reviewing policies and I am guessing most districts are doing the same as this has become so public.

Not to take away from the Roland/Story issue, but what is going on at Waverly Shell Rock? Whatever they find they should look to Roland/Story for what exactly not to do.

Been something in the water the last week or so. That's the 3rd big school fight I've head about in the KWWL area after Dubuque Hempstead and Waterloo West. The one at West didn't make the news though. Christmas break needs to hurry up and get here.

Why can’t the coach have him wrestle JV and not varsity? It’s their choice.
