Walk out of Texas stand around and bumped one of them, It was almost as bad as when ISU murdered Pemsl, there was blood everywhere! :jimlad: It was a chicken #### call by a chicken #### ref.

Those refs had no control over the game.

They should have known given the circumstances it was going to be physical and chippy and they should have taken control in the first 4 minutes but they failed.

Caleb is quickly approaching "I hate that ******* guy" status.

He's pretty much hit the whole checklist now --

1.) White
2.) Good shooter
3.) In-your-face attitude
4.) Talks a lot of smack
5.) Bad haircut
6.) Been in school approximately forever

Yep, he's our own Brady Morningstar/Keiton Paige/Phil Forte/Matt Mooney now.
Except for #1, I add Perry Ellis @ KU. Dude looked 40 years old with bald knob and seemed like he played 6 years.

Grill just needs to be able to perfect the art of leaping into someone on his 3s and then he's Keiton Page level for sure

And he could still come back for another year…

I have a suspicion that it was that the ref heard Gabe talking **** to Hunter. After that he was looking for anything he could call. Tre bumped into the Texas kid and that drew the whistle.

Lipsy had just stolen the ball from Hunter and went for a layup and was fouled hard (also by hunter). At that point Gabe, Grill and Lipsy all were surrounding Hunter on the ground. We had just tied up the game after being down 11 and Hilton was on fire. Ref was just trying to lower the temperature - I'm totally fine with the call and super happy it didn't go against Gabe.
Someone watching beside me swore that Grill reached out his hand to help Tyrese up off the floor and he dissed it. Anyone else see that ? Then the chippy-ness came. But didn't have a good view.

I laughed so hard when Caleb taunted the UT bench. Don't even care since Texas was fouling him all game with no calls from the refs.

Twitter is blowing up about the play right before he drained the 3 when the texas player went up for the shot and came down where Grill was underneath him.

Replay doesn't look pretty. I get there was a rebound already in place. I get their fans are irked about it. They claim it completely changed the momentum of the game and the player could have gotten hurt. The big 12 refs are out to get them as they bolt for the SEC. Man, the irony. I can't imagine the game there is going to be easy on our guys, they'll want revenge.

Caleb Grill comes down hard on lots of his rebounds. If he has a back issue, I worry about it getting worse as he continues his violent rebounding.

I saw that too..... only I am fairly confident Grill reached out his hand, Tyrese went to take it and Grill withdrew it and walked away. The instance was quickly brushed over by the King dead ball foul hit to the head.

I was the same way, I saw Grill pull his hand away and thought- did he really just do that? Then I saw the pushing going on with the whistle blown.

Grill did undercut that guy, but I'd say it didn't look intentional, and yes he got away with it 'cuz no whistle came. Unfortunately, that's basketball...especially in tough, physical games with lots of contact.

Here's the sequence. He had an immediate reaction and it was obvious that it hurt. He really got up and stretched for the rebound. Landed awkwardly on one leg.

Could the refs have just honored his request for timeout and charged us the TO. Lol. That would have been kinda funny too. And more appropriate than a taunting Technical.
I thought he was signalling to TJ that we need to get a TO because the guys were gassed and his back was sore.

It was probably a foul, but that play certainly didn't change the outcome of the game by itself in an 11 point game.

This is inaccurate. Tamin was on the ground next to Tyrese and Grill extended a hand to help Tamin up. He helped Tamin up and walked away. There was nothing off about it - he helped his teammate up and they both started walking towards our bench.

After Grill and Tamin had cleared though, two Texas guys moved in to help Tyrese up. Brock Cunningham also inserted himself in the crowd and sort of intentionally tangled himself with Tre and Tre raised his arms up in the air and Cunningham flailed back. They called the tech for that.

Really was no big deal and should of been nothing all around. Officials were probably over sensitive knowing the story lines at play. Happens at the 42:00 minute mark of the ESPN+ replay if anyone is curious. Scuffle had nothing to do with Grill though.

That game did become one of the rougher games I’ve seen Iowa State play.

Good clarification. I just watched the segment thanks to someone recently posting video of the game on here. Grill definitely picked up Tamin and the entanglement of Tre and Texas player looked not worthy of a technical, imo. Don't know if that same gathering of players is the same segment where someone at the game tweeted that "Gabe with massive trash talking to Tyrese" or something to that effect. Regardless, glad we didn't back down to them and came out with a hard fought win. Kudos to those that were there for the great atmosphere.
