That was a night that the Ames Fire Chief could not have been happy with the # in the building.

I was 3 years old and stuck at home with grandma. my Dad keeps telling me how amazing the LaFester game was, every single time we talk about how sweet such-and-such current game was.... must have really made an impression on that Cyclone Faithful generation!

"So eager is Texas to distance itself from the Beard mess that the school chose to reprint not only about 200 of the yearly team media guides but also the laminated media credentials because both had Beard’s picture on them. Out of sight, out of mind . "

It was a missed call. It was pretty obvious.

Am I sorry about it? Not really. We've had a ton of calls go against us, in our opinion. Besides, we beat em square up, by 11. It's not like it was a 1-3 point game, like at the Phog, and then we lose the game because of it.

Texas has gotten their share of calls in the past. In FB and BB.

Jesus. This was a non shooting foul midway through the first half of a game won by double digits. Get over it.

Keep in mind these are the same people that petitioned the Big 12 to make it a personal foul if you made the horns down gesture.

F Texas Is they don’t like not getting 1 call on the road. They got PLENTY of calls last night. And they get EVERY call in EVERY game for the last 30 years in EVERY game we have ever played. Sick of this ****.

Not sure if this has been brought up yet or if this is the correct thread… but my god was it hot in there tonight. Next big game I’m going to bring a thermometer just to see how hot it actually is…. It’s terrible. Like uncomfortable.

Upper Balcony? It's a least 5 degrees warmer than the lower part of the balcony parquet even cooler yet. I always were short sleeve shirts to MBB because of that reason

Just watched the postgame with Gabe and Jared. Both are impressive young men. Especially loved the comments from JH about how much he loves representing Iowa State.

JH has been money on post game interviews with JW the last 2 games. He is the tambourine quote guy. He really likes being at ISU and it comes thru when he talks about it.

It makes me feel better to know just how bad it hurts Texas deep down to be such a disappointment in football and basketball. Imagine how bruised their ego is and how $hitty it must feel to be monumental underachievers.
Despite having an enormous population advantage (TX is 3x larger than other Big 12 states combined) and seemingly endless financial resources they cannot win championships. They’re not the big game on anyones calendar anymore.
They’ve got one conference tournament in basketball. Hadn’t seen the title game in 10 years before they won in 2021 and a whopping 1-6 in tiles games overall. They’ve not won an outright regular season since 1998 which means no current players have seen that in their lifetime. No sweet sixteens since 2008.

Are they a bad basketball program? No. But they’re far from elite. There are mid majors with more success in March. Kansas, K State, Oklahoma, Baylor, West Virginia, Texas Tech and Iowa State all have deeper runs than them in that time period including final fours and championships. Im not sure their basketball resume is top half of the conference.

As for football - which is their pride and joy and reason for living - they’ve been even more disappointing. 3 conference titles since inception of the Big 12 with the most recent being 13 years ago. Since 2010 they have a 56% winning percentage in football with a good portion of those wins being buy games and 5 losing seasons in-conference over that time period. In those years they’ve finished ranked in the AP poll only 4 times with the highest being #9 (the others being 25 and 19 twice). So 4 times ranked end of year on the top 25 in a 13 year stretch in arguably the most football talent-rich state in the country.

They also can’t keep a coach. If it’s not strippers with monkeys, it’s wife beaters. Again, even with their endless pile of money no one worth a $hit wants to go there. Yet every year they think Saban is leaving Bama to come there. Shaka left them for Marquette, for gods sake.

So yes, they are butt hurt. And most people would be if you had that high of expectations and failed miserably to meet them year, after year, after year. I don’t blame them for their feeling of inferiority which they can only mask with false sense of superiority.

Now they’re off to the SEC where they can be little brother to OU some more, A&M again, and a whole bunch of legitimate programs in both football and basketball.

All of that said, they’re tough enough to handle this misery. Just don’t throw horns down.

Lots of mentions of great loud atmospheres in here over the last two decades. But for us older folks who were there, the Oklahoma State game when they were #2 and we came back from 18 down at half to win OT was and is still the loudest I've ever seen Hilton. I was behind the basket when Alexander missed those late FTs and it was insane.
I had the privilege of sitting courtside that whole season working for the Sports Information Dept. That game was absolutely incredible. We were down 7 with a little over a minute left in regulation and again in overtime. Both times Justice went off and brought us back. Hilton was so awesome at that time.

Oops. That is a violation. Will look to see if Gabe does this on other FT attempts. Have to clean that up before a big FT gets taken away in a tight game.

I've been noticing it consistently this year. There seems to be a lot of little stuff refs are letting slide.

Speaking of, I love all the trash talk and celebrations, but if I'm honest, I'm holding my breath waiting for the T. Thus far it seems like they're letting these guys play and talk their talk though.

I'm going to try and find this. But, my initial impression is that he has a tendency to step into his free throws and given the angle that foot can even be off the ground. Not convinced unless it's a court side floor level shot.

Grill went to box the guy out after the ball hit rim and ended up taking him out. Again it should have probably been a foul but it was a basketball move/positioning.

Some of the fouls called on ISU late in the game that kept UT around were also bad.

There have been many games where I walked to the car without a coat and it felt fantastic. Feels like it has to be 85 degrees or higher up there.

On a consistency basis you may be right. Looking back, good McKay was great...bad McKay was terrible....

Yeah holistically I'm taking Shoon. McKay could fly around and block shots and take lobs but was pretty limited. And I know he was DPOY but if he really didn't guard greatly iirc.
