the calls that fouled out Shoon and Tamin were especially egregious. Especially the "make up" charge they called on Tamin. You call a legitimate charge on WVU and they all throw a fit, so you call a charge on ISU the first chance you get. Just ridiculous. Most 8th grade games are called better than that. ****, most 8th graders would call a game better than that.

Just keep it in mind everyone that yes the conference title would be awesome BUT this team is tough and although they aren’t closing these out on the road, they are right there in some tough environments. Come NCAA Tournament it’s all neutral site so I like where things are looking and going for the Big Dance.

I said it after the Tech meltdown but I really think this team finds its way to the Elite 8 barring a team just going unconscious from three.

To push back against those who say we can't blame the officiating, I'll reiterate a point that others have made before: bad officiating and us losing aren't mutually exclusive. We should acknowledge the fact that refs affect the game. Just because we played poorly doesn't mean we didn't play well enough to win. For the most part, we played good enough to win, but it felt like we didn't always have a fair shot, which is incredibly frustrating.

Let's not act like there is a larger conspiracy at play. This was just an example of completely incompetent officiating. Nothing more, nothing less. BUT, they absolutely affected the game and there is no excuse for that level of incompetence at this level.
With all the money being bet these days nothing at all would surprise me. It will be found out one day and then we’ll wonder how many have there really been. Just saying!!

Officials, like players, have bad games. It was specifically one official that was bad (black hair, punchable face)

It sucks when it happens, but I wouldn’t be too suspicious of it.
They can have off nights, but this crew was blatantly bad-bordering incompetent.

Given how this game went... we should have lost by 20. It was a miracle we even had a shot the way it was officiated. It was not a fair game for our guys. Felt bad for them. And TJ didn't do his job and fight for them either. I don't care if that's not your style.... it's part of your job to an extent. And no, it doesn't mean getting a T. It means getting on the refs (not just talking to them)... and letting them know you're pissed. It does make a difference. He doesn't need to be a total a-hole like Fran or Huggy and act like a little child.... but something needs to be done in a game like this where your guys are not even being allowed to compete on a level playing field.
This line of logic is really getting boring. To suggest, no state, that TJ does not stand up for his team is so much crap. I have yet to see a team play as a team as well as these guys do, and the ONLY way that happens is when the players have huge respect for their coach.

every unfortunate loss in B12 play makes that incrementally harder. we need an unexpected win to make up for tonight. i don't care what the metrics predicted, we needed tonight's win.

I just see a bad trend continuing. We’re now only 2 wins out of the last 6 games. Have not won on the road in over a month. Only Tech has a longer road losing streak.

Be worried if they start losing at home, otherwise, remember this is the toughest conference in America and losing games on the road is going to happen. I’d be more concerned if they continued to give up huge leads.

It is time to figure out how to use technology to improve the officiating. Crowd sourcing plus multiple camera angles and training, we could reduce the variability from end to end, lack of seeing what the hell is going, being gassed becuase there is no way any of these officials can keep up with these early 20 somethings, etc.

We need to figure out a better way. We have the technology, we can do it.
Leave 2 officials on the floor to break up fights and shake their heads at the refs and do NOTHING MORE.

Paid much attention to who they're playing?

It’s been said already everywhere and this is not just because of tonight but refereeing across college basketball has to be addressed. You can’t grow the game and even call this an entertaining product when there are nearly 50 fouls called and a game takes 2 and half hours that didn’t even go to OT.

Tonight was just one of hundreds of games across college basketball that are so bad for the sport. Not sure the exact answer because a foul is a foul and you want to keep it from becoming a hockey game but it already is plus 50 fouls.
And to me, it's not just that too many fouls were called - in the first 10 minutes or so of the game, West Virginia was being VERY physical on defense away from the ball, grabbing cutters, bumping screeners, boxing out very hard. In that time, they were called for only about 3 total fouls (none of which were away from the ball, to my recollection), and in my view, that set the tone for the game as being a physical affair. But later in the game, maybe realizing how physical the game was getting, the officials changed the way they were calling things, and got very tight on the whistle (again, typically on or around the ball, letting WVU continue to grab and bump away from the ball, but that's another story), AFTER players adopted a pretty physical style of play. I think that's why you saw the players getting so clearly frustrated (on both sides, actually) with the way the game was called in the second half. I try pretty hard to watch these games fairly objectively when it comes to the whistle (admitting that I do have a rooting interest), but this one was tough to see as being fair. And despite it all, we had a shot at it down the stretch, could have won it with a couple more plays. And, again, like OSU, we saw the opponent make two long accidental bank shots on the road in a close loss, which is pretty frustrating...

Well dang it those 1st 10 minutes didn't help us any. Good effort to come back get a lead and keep it tight.
Well time to get the W in Hilton Saturday.
