Question on Eli King

IMO TJ could go with a bigger lineup next year with Watson & Biliew playing the 3 spot. So Lipsey, Williams and Grill would be Eli King's competition for 80 or so minutes at the 2 guard spots and some minutes at the 3 if we go small. The wild cards at guard being Grill returning for year 5 and Hamilton's readiness to play.

The obvious question is TJ and staff's view of Eli during practice this year. There is a fine line between playing 10-15 mpg and 0 minutes- just look at Watson's minutes disappear with an eligible/healthy Tre King & Jaz Kunc.

Also, Eli's spot in the playing rotation next year isn't any different than Lipsey or Watson. All have a number of aspects of their games to ensure their spots.

That might be an exaggeration in Lipsey's case, but Tamin main weakness is 3 pt shooting. In Jeremiah William's 2 years at Temple he was a low volume 3 point shooter and made 27% (only 23% his soph year). So for TJ to play both guys at the same time, one will need to become a respectable 3 point shot next year. Otherwise they could split PG minutes.
I'm kinda hoping Williams and Lipsey split time at the point. Still think we'll get a nice surprise in the portal. IB..Holmes..Next guy up. Throw Tre King in that mix and I don't see many minutes for Eli. TJ just has the program clicking and the talent pool's getting better and more of it.

He's down on the depth chart and maybe just isn't ready. Redshirting is silly with how small the number of scholarships allowed is so redshirting him, especially with a class of four coming in, isn't the right thing to do. I'm sure he is working on some things, such as building strength, defense, shot, dribbling, etc. and will contribute decent minutes next year if he stays. Eli King didn't get screwed. He's just likely not worthy of being a big contributor yet. His enthusiasm on the sidelines is great and love seeing him stand up and show his energy. By the way, his hairline is insane. He looks like he's been receding for a few years.

Too many folks got duped by some highlight tapes against inferior competition. There will never be a big 12 scouting report on him that read's "beware of his athleticism". In fact, I think it would say the opposite, in that teams think they could go at him.

Seems like a great teammate, I hope he finds a role.

I know it makes our roster heavy in the frontcourt but I am more concerned with getting a transfer to replace Osun than I am getting another SG.

Maybe he could play football instead. He had P5 offers for that as well.

Yeah. Odd juxtaposition...

The roster as of now needs depth at guard but a starter at the "5."

They already have starting guards and post depth, but not one guy you can see as "the guy."

Redshirting kind of went extinct as the transfer era took off. It will be interesting, with the one-time immediate transfer change, to see if it makes a bit of return.

Hell, I watched the Ohio St -Iowa game last night. I'm pretty sure the first 4 players off our bench could see major minutes at tOSU. That is a one bad frickin group of players for a P5 program.
Agreed. What the hell happened there? Sensabaugh is a stud but the rest of it is a mess.

Ohio State, with their resources, should never, ever be that bad in any major sport.

If I remember right Jordan Bohanan from Iowa played in like 8 or 9 games the season he had some surgery and still red shirted
Naz Long had a similar situation his senior year(same class as Niang). Was able to come back and play with Thomas and Morris for their senior season.

I'm guessing as many years as that sap went to college we should be calling him Dr. Bohannon by now.

How does he fit into next year's rotation? I'm assuming Lipsey, Grill, Watson, Hamilton, Williams, and a SG tranfer for next season. Where are minutes there for him?
Grill is coming back shoot! I lost respect for him with the way he handled himself at the end of the Oklahoma State game! If he can’t make a basket he’s a liability! They say his defense is good I don’t see that his man gets open a lot! TJ must’ve been a little bit mad too since he didn’t start and only played 12 minutes!

I think you are a little over-exaggerating some of the above. 'MOST' fans know the value he brings, and aren't going to let a little out of character slump change that. Now if it stays that way for the next 4 weeks then we'll re-evaluate. Heck, sometimes he's our best rebounder. He helps spread the floor. Personally, I'd love to have him back. Need his 3-pt threat and he will absolutely help the newcomers understand the TJ system.
