Did Hinson learn that 3-point shot leg kick to get fouls at Iowa State? He used it several times unsuccessfully last night.

In the first round especially they let the games be more physical. The refs know these games are on a schedule and can't be 2.5/3 hour games when they have 4 games at a venue to get through.
This just isn't true. Does anyone actually think the officials are going to risk getting to move on and do bigger games in the tournament by letting stuff go that should be called a foul? No way they give one crap about 'keeping the games on schedule" in their building.

Watch first round games of the past. They let teams play and aren't whistle happy.

There are fouls that affect play, and then there is inconsequential contact. The latter is what good officials don't call.

Officials let all kinds of fouls go in every game.

That being said even under this theory, we are in the second game of the session and there is plenty of time after our game and before the next one even if our game turned into a West Virginia length game

I think the length of our G/F's will play a factor. Jaz / T. King / Watson / Ward combo will come up big on D - even though it might not show up on the box score. Not to mention Gabe should be able to shut one person down.

That pick and pop action will be key - switching everything and being multiple will help in this aspect as well. Keeping their 6th man from getting out in transition is also a big point.

Its the turny so anything can happen, but outside of them hitting 15+ 3's; i think the no-middle defense will prevail.

Oklahoma wasn’t our worst loss?

Regardless of the stats I'd say it was. Oklahoma didn't particularly end the year well whereas Tech beat us, Texas, and KSU in a short stretch. They also lost to TCU at the end of the game and kept all their losses close, save for at Baylor and WVU in the Big 12 tourney. So they finished the year 5-5 in their last 10 games with 4 of those wins (aforementioned plus regular season win AT WVU) coming against NCAA teams. Once they got some players back they were actually a decent team.

Oklahoma on the other hand went 2-11 to end the season (starting after Bama blowout). Their only wins were against us and a home win against TCU. The way in which we collapsed at Tech was deplorable, but the metrics and eye test would suggest Tech was a different team than the one that started the season. Boomer on the other hand struggled down the stretch.

Keys to victory:

1. Run them off the 3 point line
2. Get back in transition
3. Bigs have to handle the high pick and roll/pick and pop game
4. Punish them for being undersized by getting to the rim
5. Own the boards
6. Turn them over
7. Score more than them

Their bigs didn't look that great. Really only one true big, #25, and he looked gassed and lost out there often. Their other bigs are stretch 4 types who don't live in the lane.

Federiko being injured probably hurts them a lot.

Shoon, Rob, and Tre could have big days inside, I think. Plus Lipsey and Holmes driving.

We are at our best when we score in the paint (Osun/Bob/King down low and Holmes/Lipsey driving the lane), rebound, and lastly play cogent defense. I think the top two are more important than the defense provided the latter is at least passable. Our best games are ones were we score in the paint, hit our open threes, then rebound. The lane shots plus open shots = quality shot selection. If we rebound on top of that it reduces transition opportunities and allows to get back and estabslish a rhythm in our half court defense. That combination usually results in a W, often a relatively "easy" W.

One thing I hope to see/not see are the killer loose balls we fumble that end up going in the bucket. The 3 at WVU and several in the first OSU loss (among others) are just a few examples of loose balls killing us. For being a pretty good rebounding team (excellent given our size) we are atrocious at corralling easily obtainable loose balls. I just don't want to see a loss result from one of those. Grab the ball guys! :)

Shoon looks like a bodybuilder compared to the kid Pitt rolled out last night
