MLB: ARod Tested Positive for Steroids in '03

I was about to type that I should've put sports and not just professional.
I know of kids in high school who were using illegal supplements.
As a message, I think we need to put Jose Canseco in the Hall of Fame. He might end up the most respectable player of the generation.
Make no mistake about it, the only reason Jose came out about all of this is because he needed money. If he were still able to hack it in the big leagues, he wouldn't have said a damn word about it.
He may have been a rat, but it turned he was right about a lot of thing. He may have been a rat, but players who have done far worse (as far as cheating goes) are in the Hall. It's about public perception.
I would imagine any vote for Canseco to get in would have to go through the Veterans Commitee anyway, and since they have never voted anyone in, I wouldn't worry about it.
All I'm saying is he has shown more honesty about his actions than the other idiots like Sosa, McGwire, Palmiero, and now Rodriguez.
I was more joking about the Hall thing, but I'd vote for him over those four.
I'm not sure I believe he was clean. Frankly, I don't believe a lot of them are what they claim to be. I'd like to believe younger players who I love to watch (Ryan Braun for example) are clean but I'm not sold any of them are clean. Players like Frank Thomas, Jim Thome, etc. have lost any credibility they might have had because of a few other players in their generation (see Canseco).
I don't think it's fair to paint a whole generation of players because of the actions of just a few, but you do have to be a bit skeptical. When a player can stand in front of a microphone and say "go ahead and test me, I know I'm clean," despite knowing that there isn't any well in hell that head stooge Fehr and MLBPA will let them, skepticism is warranted.

We have a guy at work that used to be really good at helping to point out what other folks did wrong in order to cover up the junk he was pulling.
I don't know Frank Thomas personally, but I think there's some suspicion as to everybody in that time (which doesn't sound very American to me, but very true). So many guys with so many huge numbers, and so many of them are coming up dirty.
It's not a White Sox thing, but I'd be very surprised (and it'd kill the game for me) if I found out Thome or Thomas did steroids. Both are naturally huge strong guys. I could see if a guy like Ordonez did them. But not Thomas. He continually talked about how cheaters cheapened his accomplishments and he's been so anti-steroid for so long.
I tell you though, the one guy who's name....if I ever see connected that'd kill the game for me.....is Griffey. I'd love to keep believing it all came down to having one of the sweetest swings in the history of the game.

I agree 100% there. We'd need a new ballad ala American Pie for all the sadness I'd have.

I don't know if I'd be surprised by the other two or not. I can't decide.
As it is, A-Rod is a shrug.
I don't know whether Thomas did any steroids or not. The guy has done nothing necessarily to warrant accusation - he's tested clean and such. But the fact that his colleagues were so totally into it and his reputation of being a strong guy is enough to make you wonder. Yes, the guy has a reputation for calling for more testing, but it's real easy to do that when you know the stuff you are taking is outpacing the tests.
As far as I'm concerned, the guy is innocent until it has been proven that he doped. But at this point it wouldn't surprise me if he did.
I would virtually guarantee that Tony Gwynn never juiced (he was mentioned by someone earlier in this thread).
