Gotta hand it to you for your passion in defending your argument.

Now tell me, if you had to accept one of these, which would it be?

1. Big 12 game in Mexico.
2. San Diego State in the Big 12.

:)
So many people on here are gonna really be upset when the Aztecs join the big 12. I am not one of them.

Not crazy about SDSU and REALLY not crazy about Fresno State, but the more I look at a football game in Monterey it seems pretty amazing.

IMHO the rest of that deal is just window dressing to play a yearly game in that beautiful stadium in that setting. It grades out better than something like Ireland in every single comparison. I'm guessing the first two B12 fan bases come back from the game and the other 12 are instantly jealous. Ireland is a dog$*** choice for that sort of thing compared to Monterey when you dig into the details.
Generally speaking, I'll agree that Ireland is a dog $*** choice. However, for the Big Ten it does make sense for two reasons.
1. Trying to lure Notre Dame
2. Chicago's Irish population

If SDSU joined and no other PAC programs came with would you still be cool with it?
Yeah, SDSU + Memphis (or Fresno?!?) adds... blech. I don't think that happens.

I think SDSU only gets in if:
CU, UA, ASU join
AND EITHER
UU absolutely refuses
OR
the TV money says SDSU > 2nd team in Utah.

I think if any movements happen at all, SDSU is much more likely to end up in the PAC. Either as part of a 2 team add to get back to 12, or as part of a larger add to backfill teams jumping to the Big12 (or B1G).

I think it's kind of funny how much discussion has come from just the potential of having games in Mexico. Ultimately, I don't think it's really that big of a deal either way, especially from our perspective. If it flops, it'll probably flop in the first few years, likely before a school like Iowa State will have played there (I assume the Texas schools and the big names will be the first to play in Mexico). If it's still happening by the time Iowa State plays there, that would likely mean that it was at least moderately successful.

Also, just to note, there actually is some history of college football in Mexico, and specifically in Monterrey. The Borregos Salvajes of Monterrey Tech claim 16 national titles and just won their first since 2008.

AS Roma is still the top level of football in Europe though.

It’s not viewed as best league and probably weaker vs other European leagues than when I adopted it 23 years ago.

If I only cared about supporting the strongest pro soccer I’d either just watch champions league or dump them for a higher powered EPL team or become a Barcelona fan. The point is I’m a Roma fan purely because of direct exposure. I don’t know if one game in Mexico can do that…living in Iowa for a fall and going to JTS certainly could for a foreign person like it did for me.

As college sports fans we all support a team out of passion vs skill. Watch an nba playoff game. The free throw shooting alone is on a different planet before getting into how they knock down an open fg. Yet because we grew up first and most exposed to college bball, 99% here will claim it’s the better game.

FYI…Locked on a big 12 pod has Marchand on today

It was fire. Marchand’s sentiments seemed to corroborate Dodd in that ESPN doesn’t seem to be a major player as of now. He said the same about Amazon.

Marchand said “Never say never” on someone swooping in and offering a great deal, but it does seem like the conference is continuing to face an uphill battle.

Way up there
BY has said several times he'd only add schools that move the needle financially. If SDSU comes, that means he's gotten the nod from the networks that the move works. Do ppl think he's lying? Trying to sabotage the league?

I think he’s lying because SDSU can’t even move the needle in San Diego. Was just in SD last week and there is zero presence or people that care.

I've kind of lost track of this thread because of it turning into a Mexico thread, but has BY ever actually come out and said he is looking to add SDSU? I've done a google search and can't find anything about BY actually mentioning SDSU. It's all some talking head talking about SDSU and giving their opinion on them in the Big 12. Seems this is some of that "my sources" information that I think is coming from SDSU PR team to get the PAC to offer them a spot. I certainly don't think SDSU would turn down a Big 12 invite, I'm just highly skeptical that they are really that high on BY's radar.

Not wanting to make this political. But you have a higher risk of being shot as a victim in a random shooting here in the USA. Especially Big 12 country Texas. At least in Mexico the cartel assassinates targeted individuals that are enemies of the cartel. Agree that we have no issues playing all these hoop games in destination tournaments. Play wherever.

To paraphrase the greatest troll on the internet:

"Regarding the Mexican cartels, you do not, under any circumstances, gotta hand it to them."
