Yeah, SDSU + Memphis (or Fresno?!?) adds... blech. I don't think that happens.

I think SDSU only gets in if:
CU, UA, ASU join
AND EITHER
UU absolutely refuses
OR
the TV money says SDSU > 2nd team in Utah.

I think if any movements happen at all, SDSU is much more likely to end up in the PAC. Either as part of a 2 team add to get back to 12, or as part of a larger add to backfill teams jumping to the Big12 (or B1G).
SDSU could get an invite if:
People in San Diego/SoCal realize SDSU has an athletics program with a football and basketball team
AND
Those people start to watch the games in significant numbers.

I get there's a sense that SDSU could be valuable because of the time zone, large local population, or adding a travel partner for ASU/UA/UU. The reality is they simply don't have a large fanbase and joining a conference with a bunch of schools from states that a large portion of the local population couldn't pick out on a map probably isn't going to be a gamechanger. The local culture simply isn't attuned to college sports. Until that changes, nothing else really matters. As for being a travel partner with ASU/UA/UU, the drive times are 5/6/11 hours.

If there's a situation where 1/3/5 PAC schools are ready to make the jump, it makes more sense for the B12 to either leave one behind or just roll with an uneven number. They'll have an good chance of being able to pick up some ACC schools in ~10 years to even things out. Adding SDSU now just to get an even number would be a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

SDSU's most likely move is to the PAC after further defections. Just like the B12, SDSU is not likely to help the numbers unless the PAC needs more members to stay alive.

So you think he'd add them no matter what?
I thinking adding SDSU is beyond stupid and I don’t think your new commish is dumb. If you think perception is bad now just wait till you add another G5 team. I think you’re better off staying where you are vs adding more G5. Pac12 teams at least are from a P5 conference.

For most of football season, into November, Arizona and ASU are effectively on Pacific Time and can host those 10:30 PM ET after dark kickoffs.
They can but they don't want to play all of their home games that late and I can't imagine the Big 12 would ask that of them. Nobody anywhere wants the majority of their home games to kick off after 7:00 or 8:00 local time. The late window only works if you have, minimum, 4 schools that can host them.

I think he’s lying because SDSU can’t even move the needle in San Diego. Was just in SD last week and there is zero presence or people that care.

Lived there and not exactly true. Basketball is well followed there. Place them in a major conference with the new stadium and football has as much potential as any other PAC 12 team outside of WA and OR, with the bonus of being in a recruiting hot spot and new time zone.

While I disagree with most of this I just wanted to say that I love your CF Name.

Personally I'd rather have Iowa State play one home game a year that starts at 9pm than add SDSU to the conference.
I really think this Pacific time zone inventory thing is really overblown. you now have USC and UCLA with Big 10 matchups that can chew up some of that inventory. Second, you'll have Oregon and UW, wherever they end up occupying some of that as well. Third, if you have AZ time and Mountain teams, surely they can do a few local 8 kicks now and then, and I don't think it's a big deal. Lastly, I think the conclusion by the SEC (I think LSU did a late kick) is that having a central time zone team have a 9 p.m. local kick once every couple years probably isn't a big deal and is probably worth it to get more linear exposure.

I think ESPN and Fox are telling everyone just how badly they want additional 7 p.m. Pacific inventory. The idea of adding a G5 to fill out inventory that the PAC can't get good value for right now doesn't seem to make any sense.

BY has said several times he'd only add schools that move the needle financially. If SDSU comes, that means he's gotten the nod from the networks that the move works. Do ppl think he's lying? Trying to sabotage the league?
Bob Thompson said several months ago that a G5 normally wouldn't be an add to the Big 12 contract but that a G5 in the PST such as Fresno St. or SDSU wouldn't hurt the contract.

With any luck we will be there by Tuesday.

Nobody in SoCal cares about college sports. Yes, it's a big market. Yes, they might like SDSU basketball. This is a money game and the money comes from football. SDSU football stadium holds 35K, Fresno holds 40K. No thanks. There is a reason why they are G5. Leave them that way,

My son and I are getting more into the Premier League and he just went ahead and adopted Manchester City as his "team". I looked up recent seasons and they've dominated as of late. I can't decide which team I should follow/root for.
Nice! Follow the Cityzens with him. Plenty of oil money to go around. :D

We've passed the point where the number of seats in a stadium or the number of butts in those seats matter. If TV wants one of those two, then TV is going to get one of those two.

I hate it too but it's just the reality of where we're at right now. Live sports is the only thing that people reliably watch anymore.

What does having a game in Mexico bring to the latino population in the US? Nothing, unless they are going to it. I really dont see what a latino living in Lubbock is going to gain having a game even a Tech game far away in another country (that many left for greener pastures) even if it yours or your ancestors country.

It means no more to them, than having a game in Germany, Denmark or Wales would mean to me. Unless I am going to the game it means nothing, but honestly I would rather go to any of those places than Mexico for a game, but still would be against it.

Growth in population is going on a lot of places, and we are not pushing for games there. Hell if you want to go international Canada would probably be a better place because at least they have more familiarity to US college football.

Again it is not the NFL that can host basically an exhibition game there, that is preseason and means little or nothing. That also has a different type of fandom and tradition than College, which has a much more organic road to being a fan.

Im all for exploring new ideas, but this one is ridiculous and makes us look like a circus show.

I feel like the ones that have no issue with this are the ones that rarely if ever go to a game anyway, and could care less where the games are held as long as they get to watch them on TV. I am curious how they think this will make more money for the AD and not be a negative for many reasons. Including the new CyTown, Ames, and the University, etc, losing a huge money day.
I'm a season ticket holder and go to the games and I along with all my friends that are season ticket holders like these ideas.

TV can go get them.... but nobody in SoCal watches them on tv either. But hec, if the Big 12 can milk an additional $25 million per year for ISU, bring it!
