CMC has so many people fooled IMO. There, I said it.

I believe the only reason he hasn't left yet is because a better opportunity hasn't been offered to him.

Well sure a better opportunity in his mind. I think the thought is that he doesn’t think there’s many better opportunities.

He turned down Tennessee twice and Florida State.

David Ubben is the one you should really dislike. Mandel loves the P12 and isn't capable of being professional when writing about them, but Ubben has never liked the Big12, even when ESPN paid him to cover them. His hit piece calling the Big12 essentially the AAC was unnecessary and he got properly roasted when he posted the article.

Max Olson has written of number of good articles about ISU including the linked one. I enjoy his articles.
Ubben is also the douche who lobbied to have the ESPN boards no longer be anonymous. He screws everything up.

Campbell has defeated every conference opponent at least twice, competed for a conference title, (finally) defeated Iowa in Kinnick, put more Cyclones in the NFL than any Cyclone coach I can remember- including a 1st rounder. Recruits solid talent with minimal disciplinary problems…

Yeah, he’s really pulled the wool over everyone’s eyes.

he will not be on the hot seat
To me, it depends on what you view as the "hot seat". If ISU goes 4-8 again in 2023, then I view 2024 as a pivotal year. He either gets us back to a bowl in 2024 or we start looking at buyouts. That's because once the sharks see blood in the water, the negative recruiting is tough to overcome. After 2021 and 2022, we're almost to that point now. It's only going to get worse if they can't pull out of it this year.

I refuse to feel too sorry for him, as he's made a ton of money from ISU and Pollard has given him total leeway to do things that he wants to do. I applaud him for sticking around and doing things the right way, but we also hear a ton of coach speak about winning in the margins and ISU has done the opposite. We've won with elite defensive coaching and elite skill players. The things that should be easy in this location (having a good OL and good special teams) have eluded him.

You obviously have no idea what I was saying. There’s no doubt he’s probably been ISU’s best football coach ever.

All these people out there that think CMC has turned down all these great offers to stay at lowly ISU are kidding themselves.

I'm guessing you didn't read the article?

I don’t know if he had many actual offers on the table. I think most of them, he declined before they ever got to an actual interview. No guarantee that he would have gotten those jobs, but there was interest from other schools and teams.

So, he's been trying to leave all this time according to you. What exactly are you basing that on?

Since the Athletic doesn't think highly enough of Iowa State to have a writer dedicated to covering us, like they do for Iowa, I decided a long time ago this would be one less monthly subscription I'm going to pay for.

Anyway, I hope the article casted a positive light on the Iowa State football program.

I let my sub go this year. The full sub is up to $72.

It's a quality pub, no doubt. I just don't read it enough (and especially with really limited Cyclones coverage) to justify that level of expense.

Every fall when mine comes do I end up getting the deal for like $20 bucks. I refuse to pay the full $80 or whatever it is.

Mine came due this May and I probably would have done this again (I think I went to cancel last year and got it for maybe $30/yr) but for whatever reason no discount was offered this time. So, it's gone. I doubt I will re-up. The few nice articles relevant to my interest are great, but they are so few that it's just not worth it for me.

Yeah- this last time, I waited and waited and waited and I think it may have even lapsed and then I finally got the deal I wanted.

I even went as far as just making a new email/account to get the discount. Haha
