um you know the whole purpose of college athletics is because its FOR THE STUDENTS.

um actually many would tell you it is for entertaining alumni who then open their pocket books for their beloved university.

If the true whole purpose was for students the cost structure would be dramatically different.

Re: Bring back Super Fan

In the late 80s there was a guy who put on a cardinal and gold Superman-like costume and ran around the upper deck ring to fire up the crowd.

Last year as well as this year, there is a student dressed up in a crazy cardinal and gold costume that runs around the upper deck waving an Iowa State flag to try to pump up the crowd. I wish he could get a bigger response out of them....

Exactly, and that's why I don't like it.

I understand that money is king in college athletics these days. But at some point, the fans need to have some consideration over the almighty dollar. Otherwise, you're going to have some nice suites in the middle of an empty arena.

It's probably not apples to apples, but anybody ever notice down at Principal park how often those suites remain empty? I hit quite a few games and on any given night, maybe half of them are empty if not more. I'd just hate to see that in Hilton.

Sure it's still money in the coffers. But Hilton is/can be something special. I'm just not sure about messing with a good thing. Suites don't help with getting more than 1000K students there. It doesn't help common Joe like me who can't afford $2500 on top of $400/ea tickets. And at the end of the day, that's the backbone of the fan support.

What ever happened for the shoot for 5 at half. The rest of the time was spent screaming and yelling. There wasn't time to do anything else. It all should be eliminated and make the fans yell the whole time. The more I read about Hilton and the way it is right now, makes me sadder and sadder.

I agree that the shoot 5 for 5 needs to come back. Maybe they don't do it because Benson Motors doesn't want to give away a car or something. What really needs to go is when the camera zooms in and out on somebody. It annoys me and sort of makes me sick. No more zooming in and out on fans, please. Student turnout is really low even though they sold out of student tickets. I can see some students missing a few games due to exams/homework, but if you paid for the tickets, go to the game. Otherwise, give them to somebody who wants to go.

Agree 100%... and even when there are not empty seats. Every student should have the same opportunity without paying a 'member fee' to get prime seats. This creates a demand to get down to the seats and helps create a better pre-game environment which carries over into the game. When I was there, the Cyclone Alley members showed up at game time and into the first half because they knew their seats would be there because of a t-shirt.

I think they might do that already actually. Someone said they tried to get down to the Parquet seating from the balcony during the OK game, and were told to try the CA area where there would be "less resistance" and they got in down there.

Here's the difference between then and now--this. This medium, this form of communication, this outlet to b!tch! Hilton is still wonderful. I love every trip there. I always get giddy and happy. And, I love the new "Star Spangled Banner" the band has been playing with little percussion--completely goose bump inducing, but I digress. Everyone is going to have their pain points. Some don't like this or that so they come on here and complain. While I agree that is why we come on here to discuss issues, it's very negative. Hilton is still a positive place. Like most things in life, it's what you make of it.

Just like voting--if you're not doing it, you shouldn't get to complain. So, if you're not at Hilton the majority of the games--shut up.

Kiss Cam is great. I always try to stand by a hot chick. If they put your picture up there next to a chick, you have to kiss. It's mandatory so you don't disappoint the crowd. Someday my luck will turn.

I got 2 right now...

1) National Anthem: First off, I love our band, they do an AMAZING job. BUT WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THAT LITTLE STUPID ENDING THEY PUT ON THE NATIONAL ANTHEM??????? Why does everyone these days think they need to put their own mark on the national anthem. Singers do this in excess and it drives me nuts. Whatever happened to the good old national anthem without any twists or flairs? The extra ending our band does just confuses everyone and then there's an extremely akward/pathetic clap after with everyone looking at eachother like "what???" It's so unnecessary and sounds really really stupid, even though I'm sure no one will agree with me. Well, they're wrong, I'm right :)

2) The new scoreboard and ring look great, but WHAT IS UP WITH THE CHEESY "CARDINAL AND GOLD" AND "CYCLONE POWER" ANIMATIONS??? Is that the best they could make them look??? Did they make those with MS Office 97? I had better animations on my presentation projects in 8th grade. I like "Cardinal and Gold" and "Cyclone Power" but it's almost a waste of the new equipment to depict them the way they do at Hilton. We have several animations that look great, yet several that look crappy. Drives me nuts! By the way, anything with the fire in it looks sweet! I love before tipoff the flaming basketball circles the ring board - looks amazing.

End of rant, for now... :wink0st:

In a couple of years when we're winning 20+ games each year, there will not be anything wrong with Hilton. Winning is a tonic that will cure all that ails!

Change the banners from Blue and White to Cardinal and Deep Yellow. Hilton use to be an intimidating place, but when you add shuffles, smile cams etc, right after a run, defensive stand, or bad call it really takes the crowd out of the game. I know we need the funds from our sponsors, but wish there was a more dignified way to accomplish it.

Also wouldn't mind seeing "IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY" in Yellow with a Cardinal background for one the revolving ads in front of press row.

The only reference I get to Hilton is this medium, I don't like being one of the guys saying that it was so much better than before. But, where I live and what I do for a living doesn't allow me to go to any games at Hilton, and I've been reading a lot on this forum about how Hilton isn't the same. I get jealous and angry at people for not taking advantage of what is right there in front of them. I want to convince people to go there and make Hilton what it is suppose to be. And I'll continue to voice that opinion. Hilton is the greatest environment on Earth, and when I return someday (hopefully next year) I want it to be the same.

I absolutely understand that. And perhaps I shouldn't have quoted you as you weren't really complaining just commenting. My reply was more in general to speak to the entire audience.

As for the "Star Spangled Banner". I love it. So, Cloned4Life, our opinions cross each other out.
