I absolutely understand that. And perhaps I shouldn't have quoted you as you weren't really complaining just commenting. My reply was more in general to speak to the entire audience.

As for the "Star Spangled Banner". I love it. So, Cloned4Life, our opinions cross each other out.

I figured you weren't particularly singling me out, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't considered someone who complains about the good ole' days. I'm a fairly young guy and just want to return to Hilton and have it be as exciting and goose pimply as it was the last time I was there. As far as others voicing their opinions who live in the Ames area and have only been to one or two games. I agree, they need to put up or shut up.

I voted for the Apple Shuffle simply because it makes me sick that some fans (not counting kids) get more into that than the game itself.

No, no singling you out. :wink0st:

I remember the good 'ole days too-- the words "Justus Prevails" are burnt into my brain. The funny thing is that our memory is usually a bit better than reality. We forget that things seem so big and wonderful when you're younger. And it's not that they aren't, it's just different. I think today is just as great, but again, you make it the experience you want it to be.

I hope you get back to a game soon. And if you do, come find Angie and me--we'll make sure you have a good time!

We have a basketball program that right now is struggling to get wins. And we expect Hilton to be rocking every game with the magic? Not feasible.

Yeah, I've been disappointed by the attendance yet I also understand people will show up when we start winning.

As Amy said, the experience is what you make of it. If you go in there and are already annoyed at whatever extra thing that is going on (Apple Shuffle, burger race, etc.), of course you won't have a good time.

This is one thing I think has changed for the better. Their chants were childish and had no point to them. It made our fan base look foolish. I believe it was my Sophomore year ('02) when this was a hot topic in the daily. After many negative comments were written, the band agreed to stop. I think this is how it went down but I could be wrong. I definately was for them stopping though.

One of their chants during free throws was "You are shooting a giant Cheetoh."

Someone figure that one out for me.

Those chants were pretty lame. I remember that debate as it was during my years there.

My buddies and I always used to laugh at that same chant...giant cheeseball, I can see that. Giant cheetoh? Now that's just funny to picture.

I started this thread in hopes of bringing up kind of a fun and light hearted poll that was meant to be independent to the game play itself. There was no intent of me trying to blame our losses on Hilton or activities taking place within Hilton. I love going to games, have loved it for 15 years and hope to love it for 50 more years.

At the same time, why not talk about things we like/dont like. It doesn't mean we're whining, but discussing possible and fun improvements. For example, it's a concensus we all miss 5 for 5. Again, please remember it was meant to be light hearted....and I was going for more of the fun poll answers rather than ones that people get upset about.

Thanks a lot MJones!!! You've ruined my whole day. I just can't get over that Apple Shuffle.

Actually I think I'm more to blame than you are. I just look at Hilton like Wrigley Field. It's a historic monument that makes me nervous whenever I hear about change. I'm sure a lot of these lame contests and entertainment will get better through the oncoming years. It's the first year with the new improvements and a lot of these things are probably all in a trial period.

And one more thing. I don't think "winning" should be an excuse. There used to be a time...............I'm not going to do that again. :rolleyes5cz:

I'd eliminate prime seating for students. Stick them in the balcony.

Not a personal attack against you but the day they move students to the balcony section, I will turn my back on ISU athletics. HIlton magic exists because of cyclone alley, and cyclone alley exists because of prime seating. Students are the single most important element in college athletics.

Hilton Magic existed way before Cyclone Alley. When I was a student, I used to donate and buy season tickets to get the good seats during Hilton Magic, because as a student I would have to sit at the Parquet level or Balcony. And yes I do believe Students are important, but I wouldn't say single most important thing. I think Alumni, Donor, Student-Athletes and Students all make a program work. Not one is more important than the other.

I said it earlier today but I believe Cyclone Alley has had some negative effect on Hilton Magic. It is this belief of entitlement to CA members that has probably led to some other students not attending games.

CA has ruined hilton magic. Those crowds they get are pitiful. When we were in school you had a lottery for seats, and only got primo seats like that 3-4 games a year. You had one set of great seats 2 sets of decent ones and 1 set of corner balcony seats. These CA people cannot even fill a big 12 game up.. just pitiful.

Your choice.

HIlton magic exists because of cyclone alley

HA! Hilton magic isn't an nth of what it used to be, pre-dating CA. The blame for that crosses the demographics. But to say CA is the "reason" for Hilton Magic is flat out laughable.

and cyclone alley exists because of prime seating.

CA and student involvement should exist despite CA or where it is. I don't know that I've seen worse student attendance in my 15 years. Those who are there have been great.

Students are the single most important element in college athletics.

I don't argue that one bit. College athletics are first and foremost for the students. But coming a close second is for the alums and in the end, they're the ones that foot the bill.

This was all I read in that post.

I would like to say that my idea of a "good time" may be far different than most... :rofl8yi:

I do enjoy the hamburger race because it's just so ridiculous overall. The Smile Cam and that Pic Cam are my votes to go - and I think the fact that nobody really participates, or just looks really uncomfortable while they're on the screen means that it's a bad idea. I know Delta Dental wants it to be something about smiling, but just having a frame on the screen would be better. The song could be way cooler, too.
