I was with you until it was revealed he bet on an ISU football game that he was eligible to play in. That’s a line that you just can’t cross, regardless of the monetary value. If this were about a basketball game or another team he was watching on TV, fine. But this isn’t the hill to die on.
Yep, this most likely means Dekkers has lost his NCAA eligibility, for good. Betting on games of your own team is a line you cannot cross. (I guess you said that already, lol.)

If Dekkers has any college football future left, it’s probably in the NAIA.

Campbell is going to ‘cut’ Dekkers I’m sure. Because that’s the kind of guy he is ... strict, by the rules and doesn’t take chances.

Dekkers is getting screwed as this is petty ****. Mayberry PD … I mean Iowa DCI … has nothing better to do than crack down on some kids betting $10 a game. All this gambling will be legal in a few years so that adds to the pain here. But hey let’s try to ruin Hunter Dekkers career before it takes off anyway.

I hope Dekkers xfers out to a school with a legit passing offense focus. Hopefully some smaller school will take a chance on him. I still think with an Oline and some decent receivers he’s got a shot at NFL. He’s got the gun ….

He was betting on his own team. If he were betting on Chiefs games I would somewhat agree with you. Fortunately for ISU, Becht and Kohl are waiting in the wings. Dekkers won't be a big loss.

Brock is the one I'm worried about. He will be a big loss.

I remember being trashed on this forum for mentioning potential gambling problems that could be on the horizon because of changes.
Sometimes being old gives you some experience and insight that the young idealists can't comprehend.

Does anyone know why J. Brock, Remsburg and Lee are not practicing with the team? Is this part of the gambling thing too? The season looks more like a disaster every day.
Certainly would be a huge coincidence if they were all injured. Can anyone think of a reason players would be withheld if their projected penalty was only a couple of games or less? My suspicion is that these guys are in the heavy user category at risk of losing a whole season or more. If only we still had investigative journalism with balls.

College athletes betting on their own games absolutely will NEVER be okay... it would end the sport. It cannot be allowed to happen... period.

Nobody is ruining Hunter Dekkers' career except for Hunter Dekkers. Don't play the victim card here... nobody is buying it. You do stupid things... and you pay the consequences. The vast majority of the team wasn't stupid... and will be playing football for ISU this fall. That's the way life goes... as it should.

This is all quite the take and all indications are that he can't play anywhere NCAA affiliated.

If Dekkers signed off on something and went ahead with it anyway, on his own team, he made his own bed.

Hunter Dekkers has also thrown zero interceptions in camp - what are his Heisman odds? Seriously, he'd really like to know...

The NCAA didn't come into Iowa, they got an email from ISU, UI that they had players that broke NCAA rules. Iowa DCI discovered the illegal activity, not the NCAA.
OK DCI of other states. Let me rephrase - I bet the legal system in TX, AL, GA, SC, FL, MI and OH are saying Stay the hell away from this issue in our states!! This entire thing pisses me off.

Of those states I think only MI and OH have legal sports betting

Well to be fair their Defense doesn't exactly have the caliber of players they brought in on Offense. They're working with basically a whole new roster so those that came with Deon have a leg up on the others.

Do teams even do much 1s vs. 1s even in camp?

In the season pretty sure it's typically 1s. vs. scout team with a few 1 v 1 sessions.

Either way camp stats is quite the flex.

There was a rumor he was threatening to sue ISU this spring. So wouldn't be surprised if they showed him the door.

Seems to be indications that there's quite a mess to clean up beyond just having a 4-8 season.

Hanika had some pretty incendiary quotes at the end of last season that portended some heavy internal strife. I suspect it hasn't settled down if the above has any basis in reality. I seem to recollect he tweeted more of the same, but...
Perhaps it's best to let Iowa State tight end DeShawn Hanika set the stakes of where the Cyclones' offense is heading into the offseason.

“People got to buy in, and if you’re not willing to buy in, you need to leave because we’re coming on a mission,” the junior said.

“I will not be the embarrassment of the Big 12 again.”
