Speaking of quarterback play, do any of you on here watch the Iowa Everywhere segments now and then w/Chris W and Chris H? (I think its what I watched last week.). Let me preface by saying I usually do kinda enjoy the conversation between the two. But Hassel was making such a big deal out of Campbell saying the Ohio qb would be the best we faced this year, like he was purposely dissing McNamara or something. Well I hope Williams calls him out on that this week. I've watched all the ISU and Iowa games, and I think the Ohio quarterback (so far) has performed much better than McNamara has. I don't think CMC was off base on his statement at all. Besides, Iowa fans know they have the better offensive line and overall team, probably, yet they scored 3 pts. on our defense the second half and 1 of 2 touchdowns was by the defense, not McNamara's great play. And yes, I know he has somewhat of a minor nagging injury. Just think Hassel made a big deal of it for nothing other than to attack Campbell.

Bret Meyer finished with a 138 QB rating that year.

Funny that we lost 3 games in OT that year. (Also beat the breaks off #8 Iowa)

I've never played a down of football outside of intramural flag in college. I have watched every down ISU's played since 95 or 96. Rocco is the 4th best QB we've had in that time already. Purdy, Sage, Seneca. Meyer's and Arnaud lead the third or second tier
Seem weird to me that you chastise me for speculating concern that he may have a limit on his growth potential while at the same time anointing him the 4th best QB we've ever had after 3 games. But hey, you do you dude.

I didn't get to watch much of the game live, so I didn't see the report about the illness until Sunday. But funny thing was I thought every time I was watching, 'man these guys look like they are sleep-walking through this game'.

I guess that was pretty close to accurate. I can't imagine playing football and feeling like that.

There are structural issues with the scheme. But feeling like your stomach is inside out cannot help. Hopefully they can recover this week AND discover some new ways to scheme plays that get players into open grass.
I thought we looked slow on both lines, offense and defense. Defense looked like they wouldn't come out of their stance until a full second after the ball was snapped. And then they were getting no push whatsoever. Whenever they did break thru, Ohio's lumbering QB would easily run away from them. Let's just say the guy certainly isn't a track star either. It was bizarre to watch.

The OL just flat sucks, but we all know that.

The 3 in front played in the league. Seneca was chastised and turned it into a good career as a back plus a few receptions. Sage was a great backup. Purdy, skys the limit. I didn't mean to get your panties in a bunch. I didn't chastise, I threw out my thoughts on his growth potential. I'm not saying he's god's gift, just that what I've seen put's him in 4th from what I mentioned.

Seems weird to me that you come in with no argument as to why he's not the 4th when you mentioned I might be a better scout than you.

I do think Rourke is better than McNamara, or especially Day for UNI. I don't think he's some amazing future NFL starter or anything, but he was good. We actually defended the pass very well Saturday as his throwing numbers were not great. Beat us quite a bit with his legs though, which was frustrating because he really isn't that quick of a guy.

Regarding McNamara, when I am watching Iowa, I think he looks quite a bit better than Petras. But at the end of the game, their box scores read similarly. Low completion percentage, INT's, and somewhere in the 100-160s for yards. Iowa is definitely just as broken as we are offensively. Frustrating that they can win games with their elite defense and yet we can't with ours.

Margins my dude. They don’t talk about them and just go out on the field and win in them. We talk about them all the time and go out on the field and lose in them.

Rocco is 0% to blame for what is happening and he has my full support. My feeling is we need to accept that this is not going to be a good running team, get Rocco out of the pocket and focus on a short passing game. You can even get the RBs involved that way so no one is getting pissed about lack of touches. But what the hell do I know?

There’s a faction of Cf that thinks you need to be an astrophysicist to understand what is happening on a college football field.

Rocco played his heart out, especially given the fact that he was sick as a dog. That alone earned him a lot of respect in my eyes.

Rocco doesn’t have great speed and is not a large person. However, I think it’s imperative that ISU have him keep the ball on occasion or run some naked bootlegs to keep opposing teams backside from crashing down on every play.

You are dead right and Matt will take another 8 games to realize this.

Way up there
He's played ok but his mistakes have been brutal. The Iowa pick 6 was the difference and was a bad decision plus a bad throw. The int Saturday was some bad luck with the receiver falling but he telegraphed that throw, it wouldn't have been a positive play, might have still been an int. That play was also a major play in that game.

The Iowa play wasn't a good play but the Ohio pick wasn't on him. He put that right where it should've gone and the DB wasn't going to be a factor. The receiver falling makes it look a lot worse.

Rocco has been really good. He's got some really good touch on deep balls, and I think he's thrown a few of the better deep balls we've seen in a few years. He also has much better pocket presence than Dekkers.

He is just about as low as you can go on our list of problems.

Just watched the Ohio game. Rocco was good - the least of our offensive problems

That was a weird team too. Both Iowa and ISU went 7-4 regular season.

Basically neither were that good.
