It was at their house, so if any anguish from it happening should be directed at the parents. I am in no way defending the actions of the douchebag blume kid, he is 100% at fault. I just don't think the school should be the main one here being sued. Especially the more I hear about it.I haven’t read the filing but it looks like the sex discrimination case is “if our child was a girl, you (the school district) would have made sure that she didn’t have to be around the accused while going to school. You didn’t do that in this case because our child is a boy. Therefore, you discriminated against him on the basis of sex.”
I’m assuming the loss of consortium is “our son has suffered mental harm from this and so has become really withdrawn from us.”
But they don’t go to school at that person’s house. Assuming the allegations are true, the school really ****** up hereIt was at their house, so if any anguish from it happening should be directed at the parents. Kind of unreal that anyone would be defending the actions of the school in this f*cked up situation. But they don’t go to school at that person’s house. Assuming the allegations are true, the school really ****** up here
i cant see how the coach allows him on the roster with this still on going in the courts or after for that matter - draw a line in the sandEveryone involved that is using the cop-out of well there's nothing we can do about it...yes yes you can. What I the issue afraid of being sued? Okay get sued by the kid's parents take it to court and see it play out not like you wouldn't get community support for legal fees. It's called being the bigger person and doing what's right not what's "by the book" for the sake of being scared of legal recourse.
Seriously if I'm the coach I'm booting the kid period. Take the legal outcome from it cause as if it wasn't a bad look already for the Blume family add onto it suing a coach for doing the right thing by removing a cancer from the team.
It's sad that it took other schools to pressure RS to remove him.i cant see how the coach allows him on the roster with this still on going in the courts or after for that matter - draw a line in the sand
is this or is this not the kind of kid you want on our team
furthermore how does a parent think that sport is a priority
the entire situation is nauseating
I went to Roland Story 35 years ago. It was a great place to grow up. Even though I have been gone a long time, my Dad still lives there. I know the community is a very proud community and is very supportive of its school. Blume is a POS for what he did and I feel terrible for the victim and his family. I can only imagine the mental pain it has caused and will continue to cause. I don’t understand why Blume was allowed to attend school or why anyone thought he could wrestle but I assume the school thought they were somehow obligated by their rules or something, because I would not think of it as a community that would choose to overlook what he did no matter how good of an athlete he was. I do think there was a ton of community pushback against Blume from what I have read. It is too bad the Blume did not leave the school system or he wasn’t somehow kicked out of school. I don’t know if that is possible since the assault happened away from school. Knowing the size of the school, I don’t think it is reasonable to think the victim could have been separated from Blume at school if Blume was still attending school there. Classes just aren’t that big and the school has many common hallways. It really isn’t that big of a place. I feel bad for the victim and his family. I also feel bad for the community. All this because a kid decided to be a POS.
we are a long way removed from the 80's and 90'sIf you grew up in small-town or rural Iowa in the 80's or 90's, you understand why he was still on the team.

This could go to the cave quickly but I'll refrain.A lot of small town politics issues have not changed.
That wasn't my experience in the 80's. If you were a POS, they made it very clear during practice that you were not wanted. Saw several very good athletes quit on their own. The message was loud and clear. If you grew up in small-town or rural Iowa in the 80's or 90's, you understand why he was still on the team.

It happens in 3A and 4A schools also. Just more kids so you don’t know all of them as well.I'm glad this wasn't the case for you. In my small town, being an athlete was the most important thing. You could cure cancer or walk on the moon, but not as important as high school football. All this the despite the area never even producing a D3 athlete![]()
My experience was that athletes were leaders in the school, but they were high quality kids who were also some of the best kids academically also. The same kids participated in choir, plays, FFA, and other activities. Most had jobs in the community too. The school was small enough that almost everyone had to be involved in some way. High quality character kids were celebrated.I'm glad this wasn't the case for you. In my small town, being an athlete was the most important thing. My first HS was really small and the divide was farm and city. The farm kids generally were the better students and out fr everything. The town kids were where the smokers and druggies came from.My experience was that athletes were leaders in the school, but they were high quality kids who were also some of the best kids academically also. My kids, however, did not have the same experience in a larger school in Indiana. Their experience was more as you described.
