Im as optimistic as I have been all year. Saturday was brutal, but we hung with them for longer than I would have anticipated. The disappointing thing was that our defense gave up twice as many points as I thought we would. We passed the ball well, ran it well which i didnt see coming. At one point, we had more plays over 20 yards than OU did. Offensively, Rocco can be a guy, and defensively I hope Heacock realizes we cant get pressure with 3 because we no longer have Mcdonald. This TCU defense is worse than OU's by a decent margin, and the offense isnt as efficient. I like our odds the next 5 weeks, assuming the defense figures it out

You thought they'd hold OU to 17 points at their place? Defense didn't look good, and OU took their foot off the gas 2nd half (same as ISU) but technically they only gave up 34.

There are concerns for sure, and they aren't the lock-down Top10 defense they were last year. Turns out Will McD and more experienced LBs are important. I saw both Okies exploit the LB position, most visibly with QB runs - anytime they saw the receivers covered and counted to like 5, they just took off and got a nice gain - first downs and touchdowns ffs. That is something that Heacock needs to figure out right now.

I'm not trying to blow sunshine where it don't shine, but its not as bad as it looks.

I just hope CMC doesn't decide to go back to 60% run and no offense. Assuming that doesn't happen, it will be a close game - going to predict 31-27 ISU. No point in predicting a close loss!

It might be as bad as it looks. OU could have gone way past 41 or whatever on the defense. They chose to slow things down.

We're missing a few defenders aren't we? Isn't Verdon still injured and why Nikkel is playing so much? Nikkel is a nice story and I'm not trying to put him down but I think he's better suited as a special teams guy and giving guys a breather. He's been run over a couple times around the goal line where a safety shouldn't have that happen. Also OU made our secondary look like high schoolers at times when they just chucked it up and our guys were running for their lives just to keep up and looked bad in the process.
My impression is that Nikkel is playing because Verdon is still injured.

If I had to pick today, I'd Say TCU 31, Iowa State 17. I don't know that we can score enough and also, our defense is struggling.

Closer to Saturday I might say, Iowa State 21, TCU 20 just because I very badly want to beat them. Selfishly. For reasons other than football. The last Iowa State game my mom ever saw was the one last year against TCU and she was gone the next day. The two are not related but still - there's a part of me that will always wish for a victory against TCU more than against anyone other than Iowa.

The only tiny silver lining of last season was she was in Iowa City for the Iowa game where we won and I got to go down there wearing Iowa State stuff around Kinnick every time I visited. Which was often. Still can't believe she's gone but I know its a sad reality of life.

So, I'll be rooting even harder for a win but I just don't know if I 100% believe.
That's the score I was thinking. Not going to be able to hang through 2 halves.

Based on what I've seen so far this year, there isn't a game left on the schedule ISU should be favored in. I originally thought this would be a potential win, but unless TCU lays a big egg, they win by 10-12 points easily. My pick is TCU 24 ISU 12.

one score spread means a loss even with the best Campbell teams and this is not one of them. Defense continues to get exposed as we simply do not have P5 level players on the field except for 1 or 2 guys

Night game, Honoring Trice, I’ll be there, special uniforms, home field, juicy wiggle, the Iowa State University Cyclone Football 'Varsity' Marching Band, Ames Lager, rocctober.

Bet your house on the clones.
Betting your house on the Cyclones is a good way to lose your house.

I'm going to be there and have a good time no matter what. I only get to attend one game a year, flying in from Seattle as a birthday present from my folks. Growing up in Ames before going to school at ISU, I really wanted to make the Trice Legacy game. I'm super excited for the uni's, the night game, the fall weather, tailgating... the whole deal.

I'm going to say TCU by 7-10 because I simply have little to no confidence this staff will, or is willing to make, adjustments necessary to mitigate some of our shortcomings.

If, by the grace of god, we make some adjustments we might give ourselves a fighting chance. The defense was playing with fools gold for the first few games of the year with UNI being no match, Iowa having it's worst offensive line in probably 20 years, and OSU having one of it's worst starting QBs in the Gundy era. If we are going up against ANY team that can give its QB time we have GOT to reduce the cushions, be willing to blend in some well-disguised blitzes, and lean on the secondary more as the line and especially the LBs aren't going to win us any games.

It was encouraging we were able to run the ball with more effectiveness against OU and Rocco had an uncharacteristically bad game (due in part to receiving constant pressure). Scheelhaase and Clanton need to devise better protection schemes to give Rocco time and until that protection shows it can hold up in actual games our passing attack needs to be almost exclusively timing oriented.

Should we fail to see adjustments, with the coaching staff continuing to trust the elusive "process" it won't say much for CMC and his aptitude. Darwin's theory not only applies in life but on the football field. Those not willing to adapt and eventually don't survive. Even Saban has re-invented his football team several times over the course of his tenure.

Hope they win one for you or, at the very least, do the things they need to in order to be in the position to win.

I know every year it seems like it takes until mid-October to figure out what kind of team we are because of our annual slow starts. But this year seems to take that to the extreme. As such, putting a score on this feels like going to the dentist.

Both teams are in backs against the wall mode so it will be interesting. TCU's got some speed which will be a problem.

Each of the next 6 games are beatable teams; we'll really find out where the program is in that time frame.
