It will be hard to motivate after losing to ohio and getting blown out by OU.

MC's biggest job will be to get his players to buy in that the season isnt over.

TCU will be desperate not to lose another big 12 game....

Was thrilled at the hire, but something always seemed off.

I guess I just don't like him, at least not anymore.

Curious, what's foolish about realizing, as many others have, that the moment has passed?

I don't know about always. The sluggish out of the gate starts to the season were a bit odd but it wasn't until year 3 or 4 where we started noticing that trend. And that is because he changed our expectations in years 1-3. I would say for me, 2021 is the first year things seemed a little off. Our senior laden team with multiple NFL caliber players struggled to beat UNI in overtime. Failed to beat Iowa that year again, and really didn't even compete in that one. Things seemed to get on course after Iowa, but then the defense regressed mid season when we lost one starting linebacker, and we got lit up by teams that were worse than us, Texas Tech and West Virginia. Finished a lack luster 7-5 and lost the bowl game.

Since then, we've gone 6-11 and things continue to feel off. Offense and defense are rarely in sync, and the few times they have been, special teams let's us down anyway. The margins being preached but never practiced or at least executed on game day is starting to feel like a systemic issue.

I'm not ready to give up, but Campbell has the rest of this season and maybe the first 4 or 5 games of next season to prove it to me. If we finish 4-8 or worse this year, and fall flat out of the gate again next season, I think I'll be ready to discuss changes at the top. Until then, go Cyclones, and I do think we get back in the win column tonight. Do it for Jack! 38-34 good guys

TCU still has studs on offense at the skill positions, but step back on the OL and defense. We will be able to move the ball on them, just need to our defense to show up this week.

2018 was pretty noticeable for me and looking back 2017 was pretty so-so out of the gates.

You add things as the season goes on and certain areas/positions can have a slow start and pick up after a few games but coming out just plain sloppy overall to start the season, and to start games has always been a thing.

The overall success made up for it but the whole time, ISU hasn't really had much of an identity.

I don't know. A trend is at least 3 seasons imo, and season 1 was a throw away, season 2 he would get a pass as well, given we had no expectations still for that season and played musical chairs at QB for the first 5 weeks. Once we had tasted some success and established Brock as our QB and enjoyed more stability at that position than we had in over a decade, but still had slow starts to the season, is when it started to become a concern. Just my opinion anyway.

To me in 2018 even after having the first game cancelled they just sort of pissed around for the first three games.

It was a really weird game with awful conditions to neutralize things but not coming out and just swamping Drake right away was weird. Late in the game they just sent everyone and Drake couldn't handle it; it should have been the plan all day to take care of things.

2019 was still a pretty young team but they were still just kind of 'meh'.

If the wheels fall off including the team looking like they're mailing it in this season that seat really should be warm.

You’ve made two mistakes…betting your house and drinking that gawd awful Ames Lager.

Minor correction -- Struggled to beat UNI in '21, yes, but it didn't go to OT (you're confusing it w/ 2019).

Overall point true, as you and others made, about kind of p**sing around early in many seasons. (Also had Louisiana loss in 2020).

OU-28 SMU-11 at OU

two weeks later....

TCU-34 SMU-17 at TCU

May not mean a thing other than this won't be easy. And right now I think that's the best ISU can hope for at his point. Because the worst...........................!

Drake was awful. That might have been the first true red flag if I'm being honest with myself

I'm going to be there and have a good time no matter what. I only get to attend one game a year, flying in from Seattle as a birthday present from my folks. Growing up in Ames before going to school at ISU, I really wanted to make the Trice Legacy game. I'm super excited for the uni's, the night game, the fall weather, tailgating... the whole deal.
Mission accomplished!

Here's a sour dose of reality. Another poor defensive performance. Which causes a slow dawning that this defense is just not very good.

Offensively back to the inconsistencies. Rocco throws at least 1INT due to tight windows and little pass pro. Running game doesn't exist because passing game doesn't develop.

There will be a missed FG or blocked punt because of poor long snapping.

After a 2 TD loss there will be spoon feeding of how it wasn't that bad and encouraging signs to keep the hope alive that this team will turn the corner.

How'd this go?

Doing OK today?

I predict on past performance. Hopefully in the future my predictions can become rosier.

TCU played very poorly and their starting QB was out for the last 3rd of the game. TCU offensively was gashing the D early in that would have resulted in points but timely TO's stopped that. We were +4 in TO differential and had a blocked punt. Normally a team with this large of a TO margin would have won by much more.

There were some encouraging things from the running game and defense but it's not as great the victory would indicate.

So you didn't watch the OU game when there were snippets of the run game getting better?

Are you still not feeling good about the halftime lead?
