The Col Ballroom (Davenport) - The Replacements
The Vic (Chicago) - Pavement
Metro (Chicago) - Morrissey
Palmer Auditorium (Davenport) - Smashing Pumpkins
Ellie Caulkins Opera House (Denver) - Morrissey
Mission Ballroom (Denver) - Wilco

All of these were small, tight venues. Best kind of place to see a great band.
I was there for the Replacements show. Unbelievable!
I also attended that Wilco show and will see them at the Mission next week.

That's awesome. Not a big place at all. Were you the guy who threw the beer at Westerberg on stage causing him to tell the audience to "f*ck off" and cut the show short? Lol.

My roommate and I saw Nirvana at the Palmer Auditorium in Davenport during their In Utero tour. You could have filmed the Hoosier's movie there because it looks like a small school gym. It took forever to get inside due to patting everyone down entering, but it didn't matter because as soon as Nirvana took the stage, everyone started blazing up. My first experience with getting baked on second hand smoke.
I saw REM there. It was Halloween night 1987. The dB's were the opening act. Everyone stood on their chairs - the whole show. Stipe took off his shirt, early.

Axel Rose pulled something like that too. Looked up at the lights, got angry, spiked the microphone, and walked off.

Started the show way late too. Rock n' Roll I guess?

Not a huge concert guy but saw Matt Costa and ALO at a cool theater up in Minneapolis about 20 years ago. I can’t for the life of me remember what it was called.

Also saw OAR at Toad Holler before they blew up and while not a great venue, it was an awesome show.

Codfish Hollow is my favorite venue in Iowa to see a band. The quintessential quirky spot, it's got everything: parking in a field (where you can camp as well), a barn where the show is, a ride in an old bus that you hope holds together down the hill, a dude in a cowboy hat who announces shows and walks through the crowd with a bubble gun, artistic vendors, food trucks, campfires, and a ton of camaraderie.

It's the best.

Saw Wilderado there a few months ago…. amazing place and great concert.

I was supposed to see concert at The Vic, but it was canceled. I did see Calexico play at The Lincoln in Chicago a few years ago. A great place for a concert.

And technically not a concert arena, but I was at the Billy Goat Tavern to see a bunch of jazz and blues players one night. Amazing history. For those not familiar with the place, it's the reason behind the Cubs curse and the inspiration for Belushi's SNL skit, cheeseburger, cheeseburger, hamburger.

Saw my favorite band at two cool venues: Clear Lake Ballroom and Red Rocks. Both were a great time. They did a Buddy Holly cover in Clear Lake that is one of my all-time favorite concert memories.

Also saw them at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. The venue itself isn't anything special, but the bathrooms are grotto style which was cool.

wasn't me, but yes that made it unbelievable. I remember looking to my friend and we weren't upset at all that the show ended because it was all so on brand and incredible.

I actively disliked the Vic, but it's a historic place and people have fond memories of it.

I saw Robert Plant there and that'll probably be the only show I see at the venue

One of my good friend's older brother was at that show, right up front, said he was leaning onto the stage looking straight up at Stipe.
I was there, but much further back. Peter and Mike came out with Halloween masks for part of the encore and they covered Lou Gramm's "Midnight Blue"
I'll never forget that one as the weather wasn't great. It was soo foggy after the show that I had to drive about 20 MPH home to Muscatine, and that seemed dangerously fast.

It's not some majestic place but the High Noon Saloon in Madison will always have special place in my heart.

Saw many acts there before they got big and had many great nights huddled in there with buddies taking in a show while it was -3 outside.

I'm also a bit of a lone wolf and used to love taking in a show there solo. Just typing that makes me want to take a Lyft there some night and do that.

Also, love what I assume is a Talking Heads reference @Angie.

If anyone hasn't seen the re-release of Stop Making Sense, you need to go.

Red Rocks gets all the attention in Colorado for good reason. But I got to see shows at a couple other stunning venues when I lived out there (not my pics)

Mishawaka Amphitheater up the canyon a ways from Fort Collins. The water running behind the stage makes for a really cool experience:
