I have been to the ISU games in Lawrence we lost.....SO, feeling this will be a GREAT redemption.

I feel KU will come in with some swag/confidence (which they have earned)....we just need to not play from behind....hopefully defense can get the crowd amped early and the offense matches with a big play.

Jack Trice at night in a meaningful game is a tough draw for KU. Hoping they roll out Brock Purdy at a break to at a time we need the crowd amped up.

I dont understand how you can say its MUCH worse. Yes, Anderson and Mcdonald are gone, so is orien vance. But the remainder of the front 6 is the same group they had last year, just with another year of experience now
This is just not accurate. Vaughn is the only LB that played last year and frankly he's been pretty bad this year. The LB unit as a whole has been the biggest disappointment for me this year. I really feel we need to hit the portal hard for a vet to come in next year and lead the unit.

Reeder is gone. Vance wasn't great but between Sadowsky, Willich, and McLoughlin the performance from the LB group is weak. Lee is gone as well.

I mean, saying the "group is the same" beside losing the 2 best players for that group is kind of a big deal. We had trouble, even with those guys consistently getting to the QB. But at LEAST those guys were good enough to require doubles and allowed the LBs to contend with less problems/blockers. Now we don't have that AND that group is weaker. I think you are underselling how big of a deal that difference is.

Has the defense been better with Verdon, or has the competition been weaker. Probably both. Prediction: Front 6 have a good game and we limit turnovers for a relatively easy W.

This. Times 1000.

I don't think some on here understand how BAD our LB unit is. I think most of us agree our secondary is good. Well if you take how good that unit is and inverse it I think the LBs are actually worse than that. If you key on them they routinely fill holes by blindly crashing into holes and or blockers. They don't use their hands or keep their head up, which often leaves them susceptible to losing contain or being unable to shed blocks. All of them are pretty horrendous in coverage and none of them are particularly adept at making tackles in space. You can cite youth, you can cite inexperience, but it's kind of scary we are in a position to have play freshman LBs who aren't studs. Instead we are playing them because LB is (by far) the weakest group on the team.

Thus far Heacock has been reluctant to do some of the things he said he wanted to do preseason. Personally I think we should be more aggressive, lean on the secondary more, and utilize more 4 person (lineman) fronts as their isn't much reason to have 3 LBs on the field when it's a weak position group. I think he can alter is fundamental base without necessarily (entirely) changing the fundamentals of his defense.

Luckily the only elite 3rd down offense we've played was OU and, to no surprise, they destroyed us. KU and KSU will be two of the better 3rd down offenses we will play. When we've lost TOs, 3rd downs, and to a lesser extent penalties have often been fatal. Against OU the combination of the TOs (pick 6), blocked punt (safety and ensuing FG), and 3rd/4th down conversions (essentially OU was 9/14 in converting third downs as they were 3/3 on 4th) did us in defensively. I think the latter will loom extremely large considering the offenses we will play. I'm leery the LB group will be isolated/picked on as much as possible.

Finding LBs will be vital in the portal this offseason. It's a terrible group.

He's only rushed for 100 yds in a game once at KU, and that was 2 years ago against Costal Carolina

I wouldn't even count that game as that was a different team/offense where he was the primary starter. In those days he was often getting double digit carries and designed runs at that.

These days their offense is more dynamic, with more playmakers and ability at every position. Given the quality of our secondary I think he's going to have a hard time finding guys open (initially). Since we have a really had time getting to the QB, often rushing 3 guys, I think the lanes will be there for him to take off and he will probably have 10 or so rushes. I bet one of those is a big run (40+) while a few others will be 10+ yarders.

I'm going to say he gets at least 80 and sets his season high. Hope I'm wrong.

We've been playing 7 DBs and 1 LB on 3rd down for a few games now

Well, as long as that one DB isn't Surges, who doesn't belong on the field.

Not a fan of only rushing 3 and (potentially) having one guy as a safety valve. That's giving QBs way too much time to throw and a guy like Bean a LOT of space. Would rather do a 4-1-6 if that's going to be the case. Regardless the less Lbs we have on the field, the better.

Purchase better be ******* ready to tackle this week. The efforts on Saturday were ******* embarrassing.

Remember when folks debated whether the stadium expansion was needed?

Having this fan support is an absolute luxury for the AD. Revenue. Marketing. Beer sales....oh...wait
Cmon man. Can you not just be HAPPY?!?!?!?

That doosh-troll is on my ignore list and CF is a significantly better experience. It's not even a fan, it's just a dude who gets off on people's reactions.
I mean goodness. The game hasn't even started and just being totally miserable everywhere. Sounds exhausting and stressful to live like that. I wouldn't even enjoy watching the games if I was always that negative.
