The ESPN box score says Pav was 0-2 on 3 pointers last night. I know he made a shot late in the game that sure looked like a 3. Anyone get a good view of it?
They never mentioned that it was called a 2. The ref was standing right there and this wasn’t at KU so I assume he called it correctly. There was a stoppage shortly after and I thought they might go to replay

TV angle didn't show his feet. But ref immediately signaled 2 when the shot went up.

Remember VCU, we had to come from behind in the last minute. They played so well against us. Well, last night on their home court they lost to Norfolk State. So is anyone else wondering, why do so many teams have their best performance against ISU? I mean, even DePaul at times last night was having by far their best night, making almost every 3 pointer. Somehow we bring out the best in others.

Having established a level of consistent success means no one is going to overlook you. Going from the hunter to the hunted is a big step up in difficulty, as we've seen with our football program. And quite honestly, our defense just hasn't been as good.

It was flat out stupid that Pav was sitting on the bench in those early games while ISU was up 30-40. I know the kid isn’t a great defender, but he needed minutes and the starters needed a rest.

You have to condition your athletes to play a full game.

The coaches know what they know and know why certain players can play when they can and none of us know if he 'needed' minutes.

Pav looked a little behind in the little time he was getting and has obviously caught up as time has gone on.

Tough to find our identity. Lipsey, Pav, Gilbert, Milan, King might be our best offensive lineup, but that’s a pretty bad defensive and rebounding group (not saying they don’t try hard).

Interested to see how TJ manages the season, strategy might switch a lot game to game, and even mid game. I suppose that’s what coaches always do.

I have a hard time believing we are at a level where other teams are circling us on the schedule. We are all excited about the recruiting class and the turnaround job TJ has done. But nationally we are just a solid P5 team, three years removed from an abysmal season, no real final four appearances etc. We aren't taking everyone's best shot like a program like Duke or KU has to deal with.

TJ talked in an interview this past week about Milan being more physical and aggressive on offense, and he was. C. Jones didn't see as much time but he also was more selective and worked the ball around like TJ had talked about. He also looked glued to his guy on defense which could be important down the road. The 'he shouldn't be playing' crowd must only watch offense even though it's been stated over and over that he's very good defensively while also being a threat with the ball.

Gilbert was also better in that regard (still crashed in there sometimes) and the team overall was better with the ball with minimum turnovers in the 2nd half which is really good considering how the game was going.

It looked last night like they were working on creating better offensive situations/action/spacing and the defense is perhaps a communication issue and fixable. DePaul did seem to get less threes off in the last 10 minutes which was improvement.

Defensively definitely won't be like the last two years where they had to lean so heavily on it; hopefully that balance creates better chances in conference play.

Nope this team won’t adjust, it won’t get any better, TJ sucks, CEO needs his chance.

Yeah why didn't he get out there with about 15 minutes left last night after ISU put the game on ice?

20 point leads are automatic Ws when everyone on the court can hit threes.

Which is about how it's always been.

That said teams last year looked like they were on to ISU's defensive hornets' nest and found space in it.

Since when is 6 points “decent”? Because he didn’t shoot as abysmally as we’re used to?

The fact that he played meaningfully fewer minutes tonight could be why he didn’t shoot as poorly. Coming into tonight, his last 3 games he was shooting 38%, 12%, and 11% overall while shooting 22%, 14%, and 0% from 3. All while averaging just shy of 30 minutes per game. Those are BAD numbers. This isn’t a 1 game swing.

Sure, Pav played his best game tonight by far but he was also given far more meaningful minutes and his first real opportunity. And he made something of it. Jones has been given every opportunity and has debatably cost us some games.

The most CF thing is being unable to admit that objectively bad numbers are bad.
We've seen Pav's minutes go up and his play warrants it. But to just look at CJones shooting percentages is ignoring the other aspects of the game. He has played good defense and handles the ball well. How many TOs/minute does he have? (I haven't looked, but I think his rate is low.) And being 2/2 from 3 IS "decent."
He will be needed this season, as will Pav.

Gilbert needs to take it to the bucket, when he has an advantage. And that is not EVERY TIME he has the ball in his hands. He is good, not every possession good.
Needs to learn to be under control when making said drives to the hoop

Much needed victory against a "name" team, after the aTm game I am sure the team and the fans needed a win. Starting to really like what Pav brings to the team, great player off the bench. We had about a two minute stretch in the 2nd half when we were getting steals and fast breaks that the coaches have to love, but the defense overall was a D effort.

Not sure what was going on the fragrant fouls, all looked to me like part of the game, the 1st he went around the DePaul's kid head to block the basketball, the 2nd on us looked bad from the one angle, but from the other looked like a normal play, this could have been called. The one on DePaul was also nothing to write home about. Sometimes you are going to get contact above the shoulder area, but two of the three and maybe all three should have been a quick 30 second look at and play on.

Averages .8 TOs in 23.5 minutes.

Thoughts on team after game:

1) We have a Tamin concentration risk. We seem overly reliant on him to will us to a victory. His toughness and play making are just off the charts.

2) Pav: offense clicked way better when he was in. Driving, slashing, ball movement. Needs more minutes, probably comes from Jones or Gilbert. Like him off the bench as a offensive spark when we need one.

3) Omaha: So lost out there. Top notch athlete who is unable to show any of that because he’s completely unaware and incapable of anticipating anything. He’s the exact opposite of Tamin in the awareness category. Watson should be getting all his minutes. I don’t see how something is going to “click” for him, he’s light years away from that.

4) We really miss Ward. Hope he’s healthy and ready to go when he comes back. Makes our defense so much better when we’re forced to switch on the perimeter versus BRE and King.

5) Curtis Jones: need him to be the shot maker He’s been hyped to be. Seen some glimpses now, need consistency.

6) Gilbert: when he’s rolling and attacking under control, let him ride it out. As soon as he starts forcing, get Pav in the game. If I were picking one key to our season, it would be getting him to play at his best.

7) All those flagrant 1 fouls were silly, all 3. Maybe that’s the rule now, but all 3 were basketball plays.

8) Milan: seems to really benefit from Pav slashing and better ball movement. Guy can flat out score, and we’re gonna need him a lot this year.
Excellent! Ward being out hasn't been mentioned enough. Our best post player Is down right now. Pray he's back for conference. If not worst case redshirt him and get another year. Hope he still has a medical redshirt anyway. Team's going to have to adjust and get productivity in another way. Think that's what we saw in Florida. No one likes to talk about Omaha like that, but you're spot on. Again, worst case we'll have him back next year. Fully expect it because he needs it. See the potential, but a lot of forwards don't make a splash as freshman. Look at King and Omaha standing next to one another. Anyone see an age difference? Team is better when Watson's in imo. Curtis Jones..you did not come down harshly enough on him. Shot selection is terrible and most of the time I see him chucking it up for no good reason. Milan should be our first option long range. Sit Jones and replace him with Pav. His drive penetration is opening things up for Milan. We should be driving and kicking it back out to our shooters every play with Tamin, Gilbert, and Pav on the roster. I'd like to see Pav and Gilbert driving, and kicking it to Lipsey more too. Tamin's outside shot looks way better this year. Congrats to him and the coaching staff there. TJ's players always improve under his coaching. That's a huge factor! Players, coaches, fans can all see that. excited about the future of Cyclone basketball.
