Lots of us are joking about Ohio State getting in, but there’s really no path for the Buckeyes. There’s just too many other teams that are potentially 12-1 or 13-0, most of them conference champions. I can’t see them jumping up enough spots to get in the top four, especially since they’re not even playing.

I suppose if Michigan, FSU, Georgia, and Texas all lose, then maybe … then we could see Bama/Georgia/Ohio State. That’s the only possibility I can think of.

Kinda delicious to think that in the original 2014 playoff it was that “13th data point” that got Ohio State in over TCU, and now in the final four-team playoff it’s that same “13th data point” that’s going to keep them out.
There is a pretty clear path for OSU in the playoffs, bama loses (probable), FSU loses (very possible), and texas loses (improbable), if those happen then OSU is in. If texas wins it’s all moot so we know by 3:30

It is the most central location with world class indoor stadium.

The rest of Dallas metro isn’t an exciting place to travel at all imho which is the reason to consider Vegas far more than giving mountain schools a 5-6 hour drive.

I don’t think Jerry World think is a bad choice but it’s not awesome enough to keep it permanently there without ever trying something else. The conference isn’t run by Texas whims anymore.

Are most people who go to a championship game looking to do anything other than go to the game though? Its not like a bowl trip or conference tournament. Id imagine most fly in and out fairly quickly before/after the game. If it ends up on friday night many will fly in friday morning, go to the game that night, then fly out Saturday morning.

That really isnt what the conference should be concerned about. The conference is most concerned with butts in seats.

Vegas is better for the AZ/Utah schools, a wash for colorado, and everyone else probably better off with Dallas.

Again, one quarter of your schools reside in Texas.
So while you are correct, I just don't see it happening. Plus, I imagine the MWC / Pac 12 if they ever fully merge will just go to Vegas.

No they won’t. If you’re traveling people almost always stay the whole weekend. Extremely few people are willing or interested in traveling just for the game unless they are driving. Even just going to Indy I’ve always stayed the weekend, don’t know anyone that hasn’t unless they drove from semi close.

If you look at various computer rankings and results the Big 12 should be getting an extra team or two in basketball tourney every season…and that was with only 10 teams.

I wonder if this SEC commissioner could admit that? The big 12 started season with 4 teams in AP top 25 then almost instantly six when games actually get played. Happens every year.

I mean I get why no one would go to the big 10 championship for the actual game.

Just for fun, and because I was curious, what might it have looked like if the 12-team playoff started this year?

Assuming the favorites all win, and doing a little guessing about committee movement further down:

Georgia, Michigan, Washington, and FSU all get byes.

Tulane is in as the highest ranked G5 champion. Texas would be 5; Oregon and Ohio State between 6/7; Mizzou at 8; Bama/Penn State at 9/10; then Oklahoma might get moved above Ole Miss at 11 considering Texas’ Big 12 championship. So maybe …

Tulane at Texas
Oklahoma at Ohio State
Alabama at Oregon
Penn State at Mizzou

Hey you asked the question, have you even gone to a championship game? As in personally? Or are you just forming an opinion with no actual knowledge or experience?

If it is a place with things to do, I'd make a few days out of it. For Vegas, fly in Thursday afternoon/evening, game Friday evening, hit Golden Knights game or concert Saturday, fly home sunday. Those flying in here yesterday afternoon had a tight window from airport to hotel to stadium. I'm not a gambler but others prefer to spend hours doing that too.

I like the compact feel of Vegas compared to a place like Dallas. Rotating the venue every couple years would be nice.

Both are already in Vegas. There’s another game there today. That’s why taking that Friday night slot would be perfect. It gives you the flexibility to rotate the location without worrying about other conferences.

Arlington
Vegas
Orlando?
Indianapolis?

The MWC plays at the Raiders stadium today, noon local time. I believe they are only selling 100 and 200 level tickets for UNLV vs Boise. Adding Wazzou and Beavs won't change anything.

Neighbor of mine drove in yesterday with his sons, were getting there in plenty of time to check in and find a place to watch the Oregon v. Washington game. They're going to do all the pre-game fest stuff around the stadium today, go to the game, and drive back tomorrow. Not sure if this is the norm but I have a hard time believing people would commit to spending 14-16 hours on the road just to hit the game and not spend most of the weekend.

Arlington or Vegas

Doesn’t matter to me. I’ve been to both Big 12 and PAC 12 games and the UNLV game. Had great times.

In Arlington you go to Arlington Live! And hang out.

In Vegas the game is really an afterthought. 95% of the people have no clue. But it’s still Vegas!

Either way I wish the 11am kick time was a bit later.

Went into Jerry’s world at 8:59am and straight to the club level drinking Double Tito screwdrivers.

But Finished at Arlington Live!

It's honestly sad to see. He used to be really entertaining, even in mostly the court jester role.

But this is just painful to witness.
Yeah it's sad to watch. I mean I'm sure he still loves it and it keeps him going but man he's in rough shape.

Not exactly sure.
Okay Vegas people, why not Tampa, Miami, the rose bowl, San Diego? Why specifically Vegas over those towns then?
