Then why even rank them 4 going into this week. What changed?

The best 4 team thing is BS too, a team wins 29 games in a row or whatever and loses in a CCG against another team who is top 4 in their opinion and drops to 6? You’re telling me they think FSU, with their backup QB is better than Georgia? The committee makes literally no sense. Hypocrisy abounds.
Good point here. They should have put FSU at 6 with this logic of best teams because they don't have their QB. Georgia would likely destroy FSU without Travis, so how is Georgia behind them?

Because at that point it doesn’t matter so they throw them a bone

That’s just the way the math worked this year, most other years Georgia would be in. Losing at the end of the season has always hurt more then the beginning, that’s nothing new

True, but when has going undefeated hurt your chances of playing for a championship. Either they rank the teams by talent available or by deservedness. Shouldn’t be able to do both.

Why have a committee? Just let the TV executives make the call. The CFP committee looks more and more like a lobbyist.
TV destroyed the PAC, tried to destroy the Big 12, and have now not even tried to hide this farce because it’s the last year of this ******** and next year with expanded playoff will be slightly less egregious BS.

It does matter. It matters because it's not consistent. They are hypocrites as usual. I think FSU players would rather have been 6th because then it was true that they just weren't one of the four "best" teams due to their QB injury. So without Travis they can't compete with Michigan, Washington, Texas or Bama, but they are better than two-time defending and 29-straight game winner Georgia without him...? Now that's funny.

Maybe someone brought this up, but why even rank FSU 4 there last week? It’s not like they lost their QB during the CCG, or even the week before the CCG. Pretty much no way they would get into the playoff and it makes the stupid committee look even dumber.

They got TCU’d.

I hope FSU stomps whoever they play in their bowl game and claims the National Championship. They deserve to proudly hang a banner.

I genuinely think fsu/acc and Bama/sec would have been equally screwed when you look at how the acc lacks depth and how well sec has done in this 4 team playoff.

Either choice would feel equally suspect, no win situation.
The playoff isn’t supposed to be about which conference is stronger, or the historical performance of your conference. It’s supposed to be getting four teams in based on their performance during this one particular season.

FSU did everything asked of them, played two SEC teams out of conference (they didn’t have to do that, how many P5 teams play two P5 non-con games?), and won them all. What else does the committee think they were supposed to do?

Alabama and the top of the SEC is good, no question. But FSU deserved it more this season.

March Madness is not like this. You win your conference tournament you are in period. Anyone goes unbeaten in college basketball they are in even if it's Tarleton.
My point is March Madness is not set up to get the best teams in the championship, teams are assigned based on matchups and a bunch of other stuff.

Yep. Florida State was #4 last week and beat a Top 15 team and dropped a spot. Makes no sense.

Cynic in me thinks ESPN and committee did this on purpose to blow up the ACC even sooner.
I don't completely doubt this, although not from ESPN's side because they have such a sweet deal with the ACC contract. However, I am also sure that because of Florida State's vocal crap at the beginning of the season about leaving the ACC, they likely didn't have many in that room advocating for them unless there was a Clemson rep.

Dude myself and many others told you this exact thing was happening yesterday. This shouldn’t be surprising. They play in the ACC and lost their star QB and simply aren’t getting the benefit of the doubt. People can call for change and it’s legit getting changed next season.

If the committee didn’t have the FSU QB excuse they would have just let Alabama in over Texas because Bama beat the #1 team. ESPN would then trash Okie State and the Big 12 to fit the narrative. Texas would have been 6 with Georgia 5.
