Which is why it made no sense to have a 4 team playoff in the first place. The sad thing is, we got 4 conf champs in: Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Bama. Undefeated FSU as a P5 champ shouldn’t have been excluded in any universe. Very disappointing.
They are in the two conferences making the most media money, so yes. If looking at the supposed 100mil threshold that’s just the media rights deal for those big ten schools. That’s why this isn’t as currently a big deal super league as some have posted. It’s just cutting out the G5. Maybe a school like Cal, BC, Cinci, or Houston drop but that’s about it. Will be weird if this goes through how the inter conference dynamics play outso do Minnesota, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Iowa, Northwestern ect.. get to play big boy football?
Also to consider is that if this happens, the Big 12 will be making more money as the excluded schools TV rights will be greatly devalued. They are in the two conferences making the most media money, so yes. Agreed. Timing is everything. Just look at how the PAC-12 dissolution went down. It could have easily been reversed and the Big XII could have dissolved without breaks, shrewd negotiating and timing by Yormark, etc.Depends when it happens.
If it happens now most definitely includes B12/ACC. If it happens after 4-6 SEC schools and Notre Dame align with SEC/Big Ten who knows.
I agree. I wouldn't watch it either, but I think that next division down would be an absolute hoot.
Mean old levee, taught me to weep and moanIf it keeps on raining the levee's gonna break.
When the levee breaks got no place to stay
I'm not sure it was even shrewd negotiating. He was just smart enough to take the deal as offered and not throw a bunch of conditions into it or try to hold them over for more money. It was more right place/right time than it was strategy.Agreed. Timing is everything. Just look at how the PAC-12 dissolution went down. We are ALL SLAVES TO TV MONEY NOW!
This is the easiest way because if America doesn't watch, things change. The problem is the largest audience (these massive schools like Texas, Ohio State etc.) are more than enough to feed the beast and this is the United States where we don't give a **** about anyone else but ourselves. What saved the English Premier League and all of that a couple of years ago was not only all of the smaller soccer clubs and fans rioting against the stupid super league BUT you also had the fans and clubs at the elite/blue blood level right there with them. Tradition and the right thing means WAY more to those cultures than what we have here.Only way to fight this is apathy. Don't watch anything but ISU/Big 12. Turn off ESPN, stop clicking and consuming clickbait meant to feed the algorithm. Pick up some new hobbies so your default habit isn't scrolling through useless sports news, paying the very people who are hell bent on destroying the sport for their own profit.
I don't think I watched anyone but Iowa State this year and I can't say I miss it.

Here we have fan bases (Texas and OU) laughing at former conference mates in the Big 12 and actually hoping for their demise. It's some weird twisted **** and just a microcosm of America.
This is a good post. And this makes total sense for everyone. You want to be in the club, there's a minimum you need to invest and bring to the table. And it's not like they are going to hold on this fantasy of equal media revenue sharing.
People need to let go of this as a marginal adjustment to the equal revenue sharing conference model. The marginal value of a team into a conference based on media $/# of teams is irrelevant in this context.
The best business model for the big boys is this:
- The floor of investment/payment is $X - if you can do that, you can be in
- There are no or few limits to what you pay athletes
- Revenues are largely going to be merit-based
That way they are getting the marginal difference in viewership that having a team "in the club" brings, but not heavily subsidizing them. ****, Ohio State and Michigan are subsidizing everybody in the big 10 save for PSU and MAYBE Wisconsin. It isn't like the Big 10 teams are all a few degrees of difference around the per team average in value. Hell, Michigan, Ohio State and whatever other 10-12 teams you want to throw in there is a P2 league in value.

Good thing texas isn’t in that conference thenTexas historically really really loves and embraces that.
Actually exact opposite.
No change to March Madness in the current proposal according to Dellenger:
But what would end it is a complete P2 or P4 breakaway from the NCAA, which I think is what this proposal is seeking to prevent.
Absolutely. The entire FSU screw job boils down to the fact that they had to have the SEC Champ in, and there was no way to justify having Bama in and leaving Texas out. So they had to invent an excuse to leave out FSU.As an ISU fan, alumni, sons soon to be alumni we have no illusions as to being included in the playoff on a regular basis. I love ISU sports and the university.
What concerns me about all of this crap is if we do have an extra special season here and there we won’t have a chance at the big prize.
I feel terrible for FSU. I wish their qb would have stayed healthy which would have prevented the current excuse as to why they weren’t chosen. But would would have been amazing is the absolute drama that would have happened if Texas or Alabama would have been left out. If anyone thinks it wouldn’t have been Texas getting the short end I don’t know what to tell you. There would have been absolutely no way in hell that the SEC would have been left out.
