What, no sense of humor? (He said in a nice way.)Not sure what this means...
For some reason I was wrongly remembering Stevie as BB being the second sportI remember having a similar feeling when ISU did this in one year span (2000):
*The Men's and Women's season and tournament four way sweep had never been done before in Big 12 history.
- WBB wins Big 12 regular season
- MBB wins Big 12 regular season
- WBB wins Big 12 Tournament
- MBB wins Big 12 Tournament
- WBB advances to NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen
- MBB advances to NCAA Tournament Elite Eight
- FB team breaks two decade bowl drought winning the Insite.com Bowl
**The common element in all of this was Stevie Johnson. He was a starter and all around glue guy on that BB team, dated one of the WBB players and then played LB for McCarney on the FB team after his BB eligibility ran out.

I just don't understand how Tom Brady as a 7th round pick always seemed to be considered a huge underdog success story and revered for it, but Brock as a 7th round pick is despised and torn down. It doesn't make any sense.
And yes, I think Brady is the best comp for Purdy at this point in his career - although Purdy has had more success through 16 starts than Brady did.
The one benefit for Brock to being Mr. Irrelevant is the Hollywood money he will undoubtedly score when he sells the rights to his story in the future after his career is finished. Makes for a hell of a story compared to if he was pick 261Tom Brady was 6th round. But yeah. It took a few years. Remember in the early years it was said he had a great defense and Belichick and a great kicker. Sometimes they would even win the Super Bowl on a last few seconds FG. He was considered more of a "game manager" in the early years. It took about 3 Super Bowl wins to realize he was really good. People honestly didn't see it in the first 2 or so.
Brock Purdy was a 7th round pick. Unfortunately he was the last pick. Which comes with a cute name called "Mr. Irrelevant." Done so for marketing purposes mostly by the NFL. But it's hurting him badly. Because people think a person with that name and status can't possibly be good. It's deeply unfair and wrong. But it's happening.
Brock is 6'1" 215 lbs. or so. Brady was 6'4" 225 lbs. So he was more prototype (Brady) on size and stature. Another reason people don't believe it. Also unfair and wrong.
People forget Brees was 6'0" 209 lbs. listed billed height and weight. There is a picture of them standing together and Purdy is noticeably bigger. Montana was 6'2" 205 lbs. with really skinny bird legs. Look at some of the old tape. He's not that sturdy of a guy. Steve Young was 6'2" 215 lbs. All kinds of guys played in the league at that size roughly. Some were good processors. In particular Brees and Montana would read the field, make good decisions, get the ball out quick, throw with timing and anticipation and throw with accuracy and good mechanics. They made a living like that. Mostly processing and throwing accurately.
The media and fans just haven't caught up. It may take a league MVP or Super win and Super Bowl MVP to figure it out. Some will still doubt. I honestly think if he was 2nd to last pick like just 1 pick prior they would not crap on him this much. Because he wouldn't come with the "last pick in the draft" and "Mr. Irrelevant" moniker. It's a lot of negative baggage to carry. It's deeply unfair but that's some of it.
Ultimately Brock is simply much better than where he was drafted. They missed badly. He's a 1st round guy. The processing and accuracy is elite. You don't hear anyone take away from what Tua is doing because he has the Olympic track team out there. He has 4 guys who could run 4X 100 relay in the Olympics. But that doesn't help him somehow. It's all Tua. The arguments are stupid, ridiculous and biased. If he keeps winning they won't have much of a leg to stand on. That's the bottom line.
If the wins the Super Bowl after all of this I'm certain they will make a Hollywood movie. With the draft status moniker, the elbow injury, career in jeopardy, comeback, prove them wrong. It's a perfect Hollywood script. They did a Kurt Warner movie and you will see this one too no doubt about it. It's just a question of when. But I think the movie and maybe a book will be made. The one benefit for Brock to being Mr. Irrelevant is the Hollywood money he will undoubtedly score when he sells the rights to his story in the future after his career is finished. Makes for a hell of a story compared to if he was pick 261![]()
In future drafts I see the term "Mr irrelevant" going away and being replaced with the "purdy pick". It will be a great honor to be picked with it.
Ryan Succop probably. 14 year vet, still in the league. Holds some team records with three different franchises and won a ring with the Bucs in SB LV. So far the only Mr. Irrelevant to do so*.Purdy has to be the only Mr Irrelevant in the history of the draft to make any impact right? Who is the last one that was worth a darn in the NFL?
Ryan Succop is sort of the most recent one to have a long lasting career, but yeah a Kicker vs. QB leading a team to the playoffs/superbowl is quite a bit different.Purdy has to be the only Mr Irrelevant in the history of the draft to make any impact right? Who is the last one that was worth a darn in the NFL?
Those are hurting him too. Draft status, name moniker that it comes with, pay. They want the high paid, high draft pick, marquee guy to be the MVP. Face of the league. Even for marketing purposes for the NFL.If Brock is voted MVP this season, he will set a record for the lowest paid MVP (relative to all other players that year) in NFL history, and I'm pretty confident this record will stand for all eternity.
Any movie will be a long, long ways out. I can’t see Brock giving ***** about about that. Hell, the owner of this site used to say Brock was annoying to interview in the sense that he absolutely hated talking about himself. If the wins the Super Bowl after all of this I'm certain they will make a Hollywood movie. Brock won't make it. It could be years off. But it probably will be made. It's at least as compelling as the Kurt Warner story if not more so. But the future is not written yet. So it could be 3, 5, 10+ years from now. I wouldn't doubt it could happen. Him being humble is great and will be part of the movie.Any movie will be a long, long ways out. I won't argue that, but I'm guessing the NFL exec's would tell you nothing would market the NFL better than having the last player drafted voted the league's MVP.Those are hurting him too. Draft status, name moniker that it comes with, pay. They want the high paid, high draft pick, marquee guy to be the MVP. Face of the league. Even for marketing purposes for the NFL.
Right. He wouldn’t. But he would want a say in the story that was told and that would take, I would think, significant work on his part. I agree and hope it’s made. I just don’t think he will be interested in that until long into retirementBrock won't make it. It could be years off. But it probably will be made. If they win the Super Bowl this year and he’s MVP of the league and/or Super Bowl, that movie is being filmed over the summer for Disney +.The one benefit for Brock to being Mr. Irrelevant is the Hollywood money he will undoubtedly score when he sells the rights to his story in the future after his career is finished.
