Very nice chart. It helps demonstrate why it's been so annoying hearing Kansas fans complain about their schedule in the past couple of weeks. I understand why they're annoyed about having to play at Houston, ISU, Baylor, and Tech all this season. But they were complaining about those games as if they were the reason that Kansas is down in the conference standings (before two of them had even happened). However, this chart beautifully shows that the reason they're further down in the conference standings than they'd like is because they've lost very winnable road games, despite actually having a significantly easier road schedule than Iowa State did heading into today.
I think Kansas fans are now coming around to they just aren’t what they are used to being.

It's the same kind of chatter you start hearing from ISU fans every time Des Moines is one of the sites. Hell - we've been chattering about playing in Omaha for the last several weeks when it became clear we were going to be one of the top seeds.

In other words, I don't give a rat's ass about what chatter Nebraska fanboys are telling themselves about their chances of playing in Omaha.
Nebraska is not going to get to play in Omaha. Lower seeded teams don't get the benefits of playing that close to home.

You are right Nebraska fans have no clue how this works

Nebraska probably wont play in Omaha, but that scenario isn't unheard of. We played LSU in Milwaukee as an 11 seed. Granted Lincoln to Omaha is much closer than Ames to Milwaukee, but point stands.

Not nearly the same thing. Ordinarily Milwaukee would be a great site for ISU, as it's close and we recruit Wisconsin strongly, but that was a virtual home game for Wisconsin - which made that game all the more satisfying.

Yeah, I should have made the distinction that when we start chattering about playing in Des Moines it's because we would have earned the right to play there; not because we're that close so we were put there by default - that has never happened, especially when we hosted it the first year.

And you played Wisconsin next round like 60 miles from Madison.
Nebraska 59 miles from Omaha vs 350 miles Ames to Milwaukee.

If you can find me a lower seed that played was closer to home than a top 4 seed in the same venue I will buy it. It may exist but I just don't recall it

Literally pointed that out in my post. I was just saying there are instances where lower seeded teams play much closer to the site than higher seeded teams.

But yeah, Nebraksa isn't getting Omaha.

The fact that it would be Nebraska's first ever tournament win if they beat us would make it that much more unbearable

The anti-TJ crowd (they're still out there and show up in little snippets occasionally) would be out in full force. .

Yeah it happens all the time. Unless the destination is in the backyard, the selection committee has many other criteria to consider.

I don’t want to be an alarmist, but there is a lot of chatter in Nebraska about putting the Huskers in Omaha, as an 7 or 10 seed. Should this happen, it’s conceivable that ISU could face Nebraska in the second round.

Personally, I think it would be completely unfair to ISU and a travesty if the committee did so. However, this has occurred in the past. Specifically, Duke as a “2” seed faced South Carolina as a “7” seed in the round of 32 in Greenville, SC in 2017. SC won the game by 20 points and went to the final four that year.

Let’s hope this doesn’t happen.
Slow down wouldn't they have to win a game in the NCAA Tournament before matching up with us?

Different Era with different rules, but in 1986 #11 seed LSU played #6 seed Purdue in Baton Rouge on LSU's Home Court. LSU won, and Gean Keady was H-O-T! The Tigers then beat #3 see Memphis (with Keith Lee) in the 2nd Round to advance to the Sweet 16 in Atlanta. There, they had the tables turned and played #2 Georgia Tech @ the Omni, pulled the Upset and beat #1 Seed Kentucky in the Elite 8.

In 2017, #7 seed South Carolina played and beat #2 seed Duke in Greenville, SC. About equidistant (without looking it up), but the Gamecocks did get to play against the #2 seed in their home state in the 2nd Round. The Gamecocks made it to the Final Four that season.

I think the committee will do what they can to keep Nebby out of Omaha as they haven’t earned the right to play there. However, the committee has rules that it must follow, such as:

1. Ensuring the top three teams from each conference are in different regions.

2. Ensuring no more than two teams from each conference are in the same region, unless the conference gets nine invites.

3. Ensuring no more than one team from a conference is seeded in the same group of four in line Nos. 1-4 and 13-16, in any region.

4. Ensuring teams who have already played once don’t meet in the Round of 64 or in the Round of 32 if they have played twice.

The above are just examples. If the committee can meet its criteria AND keep Nebby out of Omaha, I think they will do so. The problem lies if they can’t meet their criteria without putting Nebby in Omaha.
