No way the Sukup loses any significant number of ticket holders due to stadium wide beer sales. Those that do give up their tickets will have those tickets snatched up by new people.

There is overhead involved. More workers, insurance, security, etc. I swear I read Iowa only had a net profit of a million but I could be wrong.

Again, the AD thinks we will lose money on it. It’s been discussed a million times. Whether you believe it or not is up to you.
I guess you lost me here. In one post you say the AD believes we’ll lose money. In another, you believe the numbskulls in Iowa City, in spite of their lack of intelligence and business acumen, still managed to rake in a million bucks or so.

Sounds to me like we’re leaving money on the table and that should be corrected.

The biggest problem with JTS concessions/possible beer sales is that JP wants to play it like it's still good 'ol Big 8 football and let everything be serviced by charities and offer food choices that are easy for them to handle. All the while complaining about not making enough money to keep up with the rest of college football. If you want to give one or two windows to charities, fine, but ISU really needs to stup up their concessions game.

The money they lose on slow lines, lack of options and over-all poor concession experience is mind boggling to me. Get some real options in there and have it run by people who know what they are doing or quit ******** about not being able to keep up with teh Big 10 and SEC.

I understand times are tough and it isn't easy in the new world of college football, but the one spot where they could start raking in extra cash is a pure train wreck on game day. And I mean train wreck. I have actually sat on the stairs in between quarters and watch people get pissed, belligerent and lose their **** while waiting in line for a walking taco. For ***** sake, if you have to give a couple of pounds of ground beef to a homeless shelter, so what, a walking taco shouldn't take more than 10 seconds to hand out.

Anyway, sorry, end rant. If JP wants to complain about how tough it is, then get your **** together on game day and take people's money. I guarantee you a huge amount of money is lost every football game just on the sheer ineptitude of every concession window.

Iowa only recently added premium seating for football and they have nothing like Johnny’s for basketball.

Please provide a link. I would be interested to read or hear. I have heard Pollard say he wants to use alcohol sales as an attraction for premium seating. Perhaps he has insinuated they would lose money opening it to the whole stadium, but I don’t recall it. I’m skeptical they’ve said it “millions of times” as you claim.
He’s said it multiple times on KXNO. I’m sure a quick search of that would provide it. I’ve heard him say it at private events before as well. But you’re correct, it was not a million times.

All of which are Levy problems, as the contract holder. They buy the inventory. They hire the workers. They set the prices.

The AD has an ability to set the expectation for the level of service provided in that contract. The fact that it has been as incompetent at it has been for years says that the AD isn't really putting any pressure on levy in that regard.

So you are saying these people are doing it only so they can go into the private bar to drink, and has nothing to do with being able to get better seats for BB because they donate more? I find that hard to believe.

Most college stadiums allow the common folks to purchase a beer at the game, it is silly that ISU does not for whatever reason that Jami wants to come up. We could use the extra money, and it might be a reason people renew their tickets instead of giving them up.
Moving up a donation level to get you access to Johnny’s is not going to improve your seating in Hilton. There’s people at the Directors level in the balcony still.

I'll keep sneaking my booze in at those prices.
56 cents per ounce puts it in about the middle of last seasons NFL stadium beer prices.

There are some people who just have to be upset about something, and this is merely the latest low-hanging fruit.

What's really funny is how people already complain about concession stand operation and restroom lines, while somehow believing that adding beer sales won't make those two things worse.
You're missing the point...if they're drunk, they don't care.

That would be a million more than what they could make without beer sells. Is getting to purchase alcohol the only reason that people purchase seats in the Sukup area? I really doubt it, its a perk, but I am one that believes that if beer sells were opened up to the rest of the stadium, those with Sukup seating would still purchase their tickets in that section. Fewer lines at the RR, better food options, can sit inside when its cold or raining all come into play for those people, not just the option to purchase alcohol.
I wouldn't even buy food in Sukup 90% of the time, but the walking tacos get me most games at some point when getting another beer.
