As **** as this team is, I absolutely believe the (potential) tools are in place to be a WS contender in 2025 if you have the right person running things. That means

1) Freeing up as much financial space as possible this trade deadline
2) Using this trade deadline to build your 2025 team
3) Buy a MLB SP and trade for a MLB SP
4) Find a 1B and 3B and let Shaw/Busch be floaters.
The Free Agent class is pretty underwhelming for next year—-the only position players I would throw serious cash at would be Alex Bergman and maybe Christian Walker. I actually love our SP situation right now.

5 things that must happen in the next 9 months:

1) Deadline trade with Mariners for catching prospect Harry Ford. Shed payroll in the process?
2) Wisdom traded to Athletics for bullpen arm.
3) Solidify 3B - Bregman is a pipe dream
4) Caisse breaks camp in LF
5) Sign an elite Closer…double back to #2 - Morel and low level prospect for Mason Miller (A’s)

What lineups have 4 30 HR guys? And how exactly to propose acquiring them?

Power wise ........
If you go back and re-read my post, I wrote: 2 players 30+ and 4 players 20-30.

That is totally reasonable in the current slug era- just look at elite teams like the Yankees, Orioles, Dodgers, etc. The Cubs are currently 20th in HR's and maybe more concerning 24th in doubles.

The Cubs are going to need to spend money for a slugger this off season. They are also going to need to make that a point of emphasis in the upcoming college draft. Target elite college power bats in the top 10 rounds.

I also feel like they need to make resigning Bellinger a priority. He's proven to be an elite left-handed bat and has great position flexibility. My only question with Belly, does he like playing multiple spots? And would he be OK with playing RF or 1B primarily?

I feel like Mason Miller is going to command a premium, premium price. A team like the Orioles are going to let go of 2-3 elite prospects to get a closer if it gives them a legit World Series path.

For a righty, Seya's swing is pretty sweet. Short, compact. His only issue is his eye. Chasing that one low and away.

I would like to build on SPs so we can by default build our bullpen. Jed's entire bullpen strategy has been build through the farm, but our only pitchers on the farm worth a **** are starts. If you found a way to have your SPs be Burnes/Luzardo/Steele/Imanaga/Horton, you open the door for Brown, Wesneski, Wicks, and Assad to all be very legit bullpen arms capable of starting.

Agree on the FA bats particularly at the corner. Not the sexiest bunch and it sounds like Alonso is going to be demanding more than he's worth. Would much rather acquire through trade.

PCA somehow getting a single off a pitch that nearly bounced.
The more that PCA can lower his chase rate and increase his walk rate the better he’s going to be. Super simple.

Morel making 2 incredible plays on defense in 1 inning wasn't on my bingo card.
