Good info. That's crazy that they issue a recall 10 years later. Although I guess it makes sense that some of these things don't happen until they start to wear. In the article, it also says
Ford in January, recalled nearly 113,000 F-150 pickup trucks over concerns a rear axle hub could break off, causing the vehicle to lose power or roll away when in park.
Before then, in July 2023, the automaker recalled about 870,000 F-150 pickup trucks because of a faulty parking brake that could turn on by itself, causing the driver to lose control
I'm guessing a lot of these happen because trucks like Ford have so many different drive trains combos?
I just had a recall on my vehicle. The seat motor can overheat but then they go on to explain that this has only happened to those that have been involved in an accident.
I just got rid of my 2020 Escape Hybrid because of the 7th recall in 6 months and then the 8th showed up a few days after it was gone.
They're probably more proactive than they used to be but it's also a giant red flag that it's only going to be problem after problem.

Rivian's financial situation scares me a little if I'm honest. There's a used one on the lot here in town for $66k and it's pretty nice. If I hadn't just bought a new truck in February I'd be interested but I'm also a little nervous about parts availability down the road.Pretty big deal

Maybe VW dealers will make that an easier pill to swallow, if they have knowledge and parts available... if thats part of the plan down the road anyway.
Yeah we'll just have to see how that all plays out. Rivian seems ripe for a buyout from a legacy automaker in my opinion. They've got a pretty good product I think, solid manufacturing but they need cash to keep it rolling. I thought that was Tesla's path 10 years ago though too. I fully expect my next vehicle in 8-10 years will be a BEV, I just want to see that market mature a little more and for the rural infrastructure for charging get better.
Rivian is going no where. The product is sensational. This deal only adds to that.
Eventually you have to make money too, no matter how good your product is.
Finally saw a cyber truck up close as someone had one parked in town near where we were going. No thanks as it looks like a stainless steel box.
2 weeks into only having an EV today
- 350 miles driven including 25 from the dealership
- $0.00 total fuel cost (just charging at a free level 2 in the park where I hike with my dogs, maybe 4x a week)
- battery still at 55% and haven’t even needed to plug in at home
- local gas price $5.10/gallon
- maybe 30 total seconds of effort to do all charging vs the probably 5-15 minutes I’d have had to spend pulling into a gas station once or twice

They are building out a charging network at least in the western us. It’s nothing like Tesla yet but the two places I camp and backpack the most both have a Rivian network charger nearby.
A friend of mine has R1S and loves it. I’m thinking I’ll test R2 and R3 and one will be my next car. A smaller awd vehicle is actually perfect for my mix of city and outdoor weekend stuff as long as it has enough room for my gear and dogs, wouldn’t know until I sit in an r3.
It sticks out as weird and pretentious even in an area like Beverly Hills where you see Italian sports cars or stupid stuff like a car coated in velvet. It’s next level attention wh0re looking out in the wild.
