True, just seems like fewer and fewer kids are willing to accept that role. Honestly Iowa State has never been good at retaining kids like this going back decades.

These guys are your 10-12 players on a depth chart. Get them here and maybe you find a diamond in the rough type like Tamin. If they don't pan out they walk after a year and you aren't out anything because you have all kinds of depth in front of them.

yes, i know that
just pointing out that Lipsey shouldnt be lumped in with the other sub 150 HS kids ISU has added that end up doing nothing for ISU

by and large, recruiting those kids is a waste with the profile ISU MBB now has - IMO
I don't disagree just might be hard to afford players in the top 100 compared to getting a proven transfer.

under the current model of CBB i think ISU, and most high majors, should only use 11 of their scholarships

give those 11 kids a higher "base salary" from NIL and keeps most happy with their PT

ISU will always be able to attract talented enough walk ons like Cade Kelderman to field practice bodies.

Diamond in the rough? Tamin was a top 100 guy even after his knee injury. Except for that and concern on his ability to get back from it he would have been even higher.

Adding a correction: Tamin was not a top 100 rated recruit after his injury as I misread a rating score for his ranking among recruits.

This just adds to the frustrations that have to come with recruiting HS athletes now days. If I'm TJ, unless I know I can go after and get 4-5 star guys, what's the point of even offering a developmental prospect like Pierce? Just go thru the portal anymore.
So you would have passed on Haliburton? I think he was 177 on 247.

I'm not sure "diamond in the rough" is the right term for him, but Tamin was not a top 100 guy after his knee injury.

Now that we have a scholarship open could we see if Tre King would want to come back??

Tre had to sit both 21-22 season and part of the 22-23 season. The guy they are referencing in the tweet above only lost out 7 games while Tre lost out on 10 games in the 2022-23 season. I think he could come back and play another year if he wanted to!

192 overall in the 247 Composite

175 in the On3 rankings

No ranking on Rivals

In the era of transfers, a high school recruit outside the Top 100 that pans out as quickly as Tamin did is absolutely a diamond rough.

My point is I don't think he was an outside the top 100 prospect before the injury. He was seen and known about, then set back by the injury. Hard to call him a "find" when he was known.

Very easily could have just been homesick. Not unusual at all for incoming freshman.

Wish him the best!

Yeah, given the timing it seems most likely just difficulty with moving to college far away than either a basketball/playing time issue or some larger off the court issue. But impossible to know.

These types of things are going to happen. All you can do is wish them the best. And the nice thing about the transfer portal era is you don't really end up with an unbalanced scholarship chart anymore.

I'm not worried or concerned about anything related to MBB as long as TJ is running the show.

No use speculating on the kid given how little information was released.
So much this.
Could be literally anything, from the most positive to the most negative.

Deleting ISU things in his social media is probably not a positive indication, but he is still an 18yo kid so no need to kick him on the way out.

Coincidence? I wouldn’t want to waste my transfer if I knew I was getting busted down the ladder after year one.
