Hey @alarson? I can't remember how this phrase goes.

"Two peas in a ___." Can you help me?

The Big12 might look west again as part of their realignment strategy, but UNM would be far down on my list of west coast schools to add behind: Cal, Stanford, UNLV, Wa State, Or State, Boise, SDSU and maybe a few others.

If Iowa State ever ends up in the same conference as New Mexico, things went sideways…

This statement hammers home for me how lucky Iowa State is to have somehow ended up in one of the four and probably soon to be three remaining "power" conferences (as much as the Big 12 is a peer to the Big Ten and SEC given they seem to have a cheat code to print out infinite money).

We've dodged like seven nukes, any one of which could have destroyed us and many of which were more likely to happen than not, along the way to even end up in this position.

In most universe we're languishing in the American (or MWC or MAC) right now.

I love NM as a state like so many others, and ABQ is a great city, but UNM just doesn't have the profile. It would water-down the TV contract.

Love the basketball history and the PIT is a great environment for hoops though... at least it used to be. Not so sure about these days.
The Pit is still great. I went to a couple games this year and the place was rockin'. Not like Hilton, but still.

How is Santa Fe? Albuquerque is one of the more dangerous cities per capita I've read.
A lot of celebrities have houses around Taos and Santa Fe. Robert Plant just bought a house up in that area. Both are beautiful towns with low crime.

Albuquerque sucks. Crime is insane here. I live in Rio Rancho, where the crime is not so bad. I don't go into Albuquerque unless I have to. Back in February I went to a UNM basketball game down at The Pit, and someone tried to steal my car while I was at the game. Dipshits didn't know what they were doing and broke off my door handle. The only thing I like about Albuquerque is that the mayor is a metalhead.

I've spent a fair bit of time in Santa Fe, walked all around the city. I never felt unsafe, never encountered a neighborhood that I thought was too unsafe for me to live.

I've only been to ABQ a couple of times. It's higher crime than Omaha, but most is property crime not violent, I believe.

Albuquerque is definitely rough around the edges, but I've lived in the North Valley and other areas for like 8 years now and haven't had any real problems (though the time I called 911 and it rang for 5+ minutes with no answer was enlightening). It's a lot like the other places I've lived as an adult (Omaha, Kansas City) in that there are rough places....there are just more of them here.

But I did spend the first 12 years of my life in Fort Dodge, so maybe it's just familiar!

I was born in Fort Dodge and grew up near there. What a ghetto ass town!

I have been in Albuquerque/Rio Rancho since 2003. It used to be a nice city that I was proud to live in. Not so much these days. And there are too many Hawkeye fans around here.

I recall those two and I think TCU.
I knew about TCU. Not to mention Houston was supposed to be included but politics got involved and Baylor took their place. I think it was the Lt. Governor at the time was a Baylor grad and threatened to block the entire SWC teams from joining the Big 8. Correct me if I'm wrong!
