If Iowa State ever ends up in the same conference as New Mexico, things went sideways…
How is Santa Fe? Albuquerque is one of the more dangerous cities per capita I've read.I intend on retiring to Santa Fe/Taos in a few years. I'm a resounding yes for purely selfish reasons.

The Pit is still great. I went to a couple games this year and the place was rockin'. Not like Hilton, but still.I love NM as a state like so many others, and ABQ is a great city, but UNM just doesn't have the profile. It would water-down the TV contract.
Love the basketball history and the PIT is a great environment for hoops though... at least it used to be. Not so sure about these days.
A lot of celebrities have houses around Taos and Santa Fe. Robert Plant just bought a house up in that area. Both are beautiful towns with low crime. How is Santa Fe? Albuquerque is one of the more dangerous cities per capita I've read.
I've spent a fair bit of time in Santa Fe, walked all around the city. I never felt unsafe, never encountered a neighborhood that I thought was too unsafe for me to live. How is Santa Fe? Albuquerque is one of the more dangerous cities per capita I've read.

Albuquerque sucks. Crime is insane here. I live in Rio Rancho, where the crime is not so bad. I don't go into Albuquerque unless I have to. Back in February I went to a UNM basketball game down at The Pit, and someone tried to steal my car while I was at the game. Dipshits didn't know what they were doing and broke off my door handle. The only thing I like about Albuquerque is that the mayor is a metalhead.
I was born in Fort Dodge and grew up near there. What a ghetto ass town!Albuquerque is definitely rough around the edges, but I've lived in the North Valley and other areas for like 8 years now and haven't had any real problems (though the time I called 911 and it rang for 5+ minutes with no answer was enlightening). It's a lot like the other places I've lived as an adult (Omaha, Kansas City) in that there are rough places....there are just more of them here.
But I did spend the first 12 years of my life in Fort Dodge, so maybe it's just familiar!
I recall those two and I think TCU.History of the Big 12 Conference - Wikipedia

Apparently, BYU and UNM were both being considered when the conference first formed in 1996. How am I just now hearing of this?
I knew about TCU. Not to mention Houston was supposed to be included but politics got involved and Baylor took their place. I think it was the Lt. Governor at the time was a Baylor grad and threatened to block the entire SWC teams from joining the Big 8. Correct me if I'm wrong!I recall those two and I think TCU.
