You do it yourself? I’ve heard horror stories so paid to have mine done this summer. Normally I’m a do it yourselfer to a fault. Feel like I have to turn my mancard in anytime I pay to have work done.
For a lot of things I will read up on it and watch videos and take it on myself. For others I will have it done and watch the professionals, asking questions so I can take it on myself the next time. I wasn't comfortable attacking my broken spring this last year so I had it done. I watched and could probably do it, but I still think maybe it would be better if I left that one to the professionals.

I knew a guy that somehow threw a spring through his living room wall. That was enough for me to say "ya... I'm gonna hire this one out"

You know Lew - he can do pretty much anything he puts his mind to. He opted OUT of fixing our spring when it broke. The recoil from the break took a chunk out of a support post and he thought if he goofed it would take a bigger chunk out of him. I agree with you - I think those springs are best handled by pros. :)

Part of being a man is figuring those projects out and expanding your horizons. Another equally important part is recognizing those projects that it would be wiser for you to not take on.

My dad wasn't around while I was growing up so I have spent a good portion of my adult life learning things that a lot of guys learn from their dads as they grow up. Sometimes I spend money for a professional that first time that I might not have had to if I had that experience. On the flip side I might avoid repeating some mistakes from people who learned "the wrong way" from their dads.

Costco has had expansive yard decorations for sale since July and I've seen a Halloween Express or two popping up.
They always put a Spirit of Halloween by me, I should swing by to see if they've done it yet this year

Apparently hurt my knee playing kickball Monday night. Just when I thought my ankle was good this happens. And with my first football game a week away...

Yeah, it kind of hurt inside when the had the friends/relatives/alumni run for son's cross country team and I wasn't out there laboring along. But I spent too long fighting that knee that apparently has very little cartilage left to run much on it. I really don't want to have to go back in for another cortisone shot. Biking is okay.

Last weekend, I was in WI and I picked up a few 6 packs of pumpkin beer. It's that time of the year.

I envy people who keep their cartilage & range of motion. My back doesn't let me do a whole lot of physical stuff any more (at least, not without paying for it afterward), but I refuse to do a fusion and lose whatever mobility/flexibility I have left. I'll deal with it hurting for now.

The only "repair" skills I learned from my dad were oil changing, assembling steel stands for 150 gallon fuel tanks and putting nozzles on fuel hoses. Oh, and "If tight is good, tighter is better" which lead me to strip the threads on a lot of things before I unlearned it. Outside of stuff related to his fuel biz he was not very handy and not good at all with home stuff. Architect friend was a super handy and taught me a lot of stuff about building, maintenance and repair of homes.

It's not only fun having things fall apart, but how it takes like 1/2 a year to heal.

Most of the feeling has returned to my hand and the back/shoulder/arm pain has been replaced by tingling so I tempted to try a bike ride but am a bit afraid it might set things back again, Maybe an easy 12 milers as a test. uncertain though, it's not like the bulged disks went away, it's just the C5 nerve not being as angry about it.
